DEATH DIES :
THE SOUND OF DEMONS

Death Dies, from Italy, plays a slick brand of technical Black Metal, that is sure to please most fans of all things extreme. The music is super heavy, and fast as hell, but they don't always pound away at 100 mph, sometimes they slow it all the way down to 90. In all seriousness, Death Dies keeps you interested with lots of tempo changes, which leads to some of the best songs on the disc, like, "Steel Beast", which starts out with a mid-paced chugging intro, which builds nicely into an all out metal assault! (The double bass on this disc is killer) The vocals remind me of old school Carcass, and every now and then we get a grunt that even Thomas Gabriel Warrior, would be proud of. Throughout the CD, you'll hear some well-placed female backing vocals, as well as the odd keyboard arrangement. However, you die hard purists should not be scarred off by this, as neither are over used, and they only help to make the heavier parts, that much more crushing. While Death Dies pummels you with their intensity, you can also hear a backbone of Maiden-eque rhythms, that give the songs a solid structure, and helps this band rise above most of their competition. Some other stand out tracks include; opener, "Sister Of Pain", the eight minute marathon that is "Spartan Pride", and "Destroyer", which has a primitive, early Destruction vibe to it.
