DEATH DU JOUR :
GAMASHINOCH

Finland is the home of many great bands, almost every Metal sub genre has had a Finnish breakthrough band, Goth-Metal, Power-Metal, Black-Metal, Death-Metal... but extreme punishing Grind-Core? Yup, Grind-Core (or if you prefer, we could call it ultra, extreme Death-Metal). Let me introduce to you "Death Du Jour", one of the most intense bands on the planet. This, their four-song debut offering to the world, was recorded in Haven Studios, which is fittingly an old converted slaughterhouse! The band has taken influences from such classic acts as Morbid Angel and Carcass, and used them as a blueprint for their sound. And the sound on this disc can be summed up in three words; chaotic, terrifying, and pulverizing. The guitars have this strange sound, which I'm not sure if you'd call it a fault, or a blessing, either way, it adds greatly to the feeling of uneasiness that one gets while subjecting themselves to this sonic ass-kicking. The band seems to go only by initials rather than names, we have; TK (Guitar, Vocals), OM (Guitar, Backing Vocals), PB (Bass), and TF (Drums). The group started to form in 2000, and were some what industrial in their sound, but it wasn't until 2002 that they got their forth member, and started their current journey into the macabre. The individual songs might need a little tweaking to make them stick in your head, but that is an inherent problem for this genre. Death Du Jour is definitely a band to watch if this ultra extreme stuff is your Metal of choice. For more info on this Finnish Grind act, check them out at deathdujour.net.
RATING = 7.5 Grind-Core (Released 2003)

DEATH DU JOUR :
FRAGMENTS OF PERDITION

Well, its only one year later, and these disgusting, vile Finns are back to crush your head into the freakin' pavement. The accompanying bio calls the band brutal, technical Death-Metal, (under statement of the year) and claims that they take influences from all genres of music today. All genres?? I don't know about you, but I can't hear any country or hip-hop on this one. Let's cut to the chase shall we, this ain't no trippy experimental band, Death Du Jour, were, and still are, pure, straight-up, gut-churning Grindcore. Anyone who tries to tell you different is smoking big-ass, King Kong-sized rocks of Courtney Love-strength crack. Even the disturbing cover art, and the even more disturbing booklet art, can be seen as a sort of homage to the early Carcass album covers, (not to mention a striking resemblance to the later retrospective "Wake Up and Smell the Carcass") as well as the many Gore-Grind bands that followed (Exhumed, etc.). Musically, not a whole lot has changed since "Gamashinoch", maybe a little more maturity, and a better sense of control, but I'm reaching. This shit is insane. This is the sort of CD that you have to hide in your secret stash with your lesbian goat porn, so your parents, girlfriend, or wife never find it. Because man, if they ever do find it, trust me, it's straight to the guidance councilor, or the psycho ward for you. Anyway, if you can make it through the 37 odd minutes to the end of this thing without your ears bleeding, then you are one of the stronger ones, and will probably revel in its twisted depravity. While not a true classic of the genre, it is a damn fine representative, and the boys (who still go nameless, probably for fear of the cops showing up at their door) should be proud of their unholy offspring.
RATING = 8 Grind-Core (Released 2004)
