RUSSELL ALLEN :
RUSSELL ALLEN'S ATOMIC SOUL

Man, I was so ready to hate this. First of all, Russell Allen, although a good singer, is the voice behind the Prog-Metal group Symphony X, and I freakin' hate Symphony X, secondly, just look at that lame CD cover, it just screams "cheap-ass solo disc" to me. So, I was pretty darn surprised when I wasn't greeted with a barrage of limp-wristed keyboards, but instead by the thunderous rumble of old-school Hard-Rock! This was totally unexpected! Russell has channelled his love of 70s Rock, Southern Rock, and Blues Rock all into one, well thought out disc. This is not the highbrow Prog we all expected of this dude, this is good, old fashioned drinking music! The biggest influence might be Deep Purple, but you can hear elements from all the big boys from back in the day; Zeppelin, Rainbow, you name it. It's kind of like a more rock oriented version of Black Label Society. There aren't to many albums to come out like this any more, and even fewer that are worth the time and money. If you dig the Rockin' sounds of yesteryear, this is for you... pass me a "Bud" and a "Jack" and lets get goin'...
RATING = 7.5 Hard-Rock (Released 2005)
