Make a cuppa tea, put a record on...

I really like music, espeically *dare I say it* Britpop. Dont judge me on that, its just a term for the stuff I like. Call it indie/guitar/pop/weirdness if you want.

These are my favourite bands, since they all have good webpages already, Im *not* gonna do another one, but my aim is to keep you vaguely up to date on what they're doing.

BLUR

OK, firstly, if you have not heard of Blur then you're clearly in need of help *and a life* They are four people who just happen to make fantastic music together. There have never been any other members, cos its about all of them and it wouldnt work if any of them left. Its very hard to describe their music cos it changes more often than Donna Elasticas hair colour *and thats a lot* but at the moment its quite lo-fi and pavement influenced. They have five albums, Leisure, Modern Life is Rubbish, Parklife, The Great Escape and Blur. Their huge hit Song2 is being used on ads for EVERYTHING, so if thats the only song of theirs you know- GET WITH IT!

CURRENT NEWS

You may have heard that Blur are no longer touring for the future, and as sad as this is, there is light at the end of the tunnel cos its only for the next album, and there may be something happening after the World Cup.

On the subject of that event, Blur are odds-on to Englands World Cup song, with competition from Pulp, Ocean *euh* Colour *euuuh* Scene and Echo and the Bunnymen- WAHOO!

Graham has just set up his own record label 'Transcopic' whos first release will be the new 'Assembly Line' album which Graham also produced.

Damon will lead a delegation to Parliment organised by Labour MP Ken Livingstone and backed by 30 student unions. It will be to protest against the abolition of student grants and introduction of tuition fees, and takes place on Wednesday.

ELASTICA

Elastica are a punk/pop band from the UK who formed in 1992 when Justine Frischman, who used to be in Suede, joined up with drummer Justin Welch. They recuited Annie Holland on bass through mutual friends and *now this was the lucky bit* Donna Matthew on guitar and backing vocals from an ad in Melody Maker. Lead by Justines songs and voice, the foursome were voted best new band at the Brat awards after only one single, Stutter, of which only 2000 copies were available.

CURRENT NEWS

Elastica are still in the studio mixing their second album (and have been for the past two years) It should be completed by Spring.

If your really behind, there are two new members to the group, Sheila on bass (Annie left in '95) abd Dave (ex-fall) on keyboards. The album may feature ex-bassist Annie who joined them in the studio last year.

Elastica may play either Reading or V98 festival, but nothing is confirmed as of yet. Their press officier told me that everyone has asked them to play everywhere, but they have yet to decide. If they do play a festival, it will be at the end of the year to give them time to finish the album. Somehow I cant see that happening...

As far as Justines private life goes, and we all know what Im talking about, the Golden Couple are still together. Dismiss anything about Brett Anderson, Loz Kingsmaker and All Saints, cos its bullshit.

SUEDE

Its coming, OK, I just havnt got time right now

CURRENT NEWS

Suede are recording their new album as we speak. It should be out by summer, lets all just keep our fingers crossed.

The band recently appeared at the Red Hot Aids Charity (I think thats right) evening, joining a cast of Robbie Williams and Neil Tennant to perform Noel Coward songs. Suede's version 'Poor Little Rich Girl' will appear on the compilation album in the spring, and was planned as a single. However, Brett thought that with their recording commitments they could not give it the publicity it deserved and it will now only appear as a radio promo.
