Are You Experienced?

Jimi's debut album, and music hasn't been the same since. I have to admit, I wasn't always a Hendrix fan. I knew the name, knew that lots of people in music thought Jimi was great, but I just never really heard Jimi. A friend of mine was into him and had a bunch of his stuff on tape. So what was the spark that drew me to Jimi? Would you believe...Winger? Yup, Winger, one of the many "hair" pop-metal bands of the 80's...I had one of their tapes and was listening to it one day. Last song on it was this tune called, innocently enough, Purple Haze. I saw the liner credits, saw it had been written by Jimi, so was curious. Listened to Winger's version, and it was a pretty cool tune, lots of good guitar work. So I was curious as to how the original sounded, how were some of Jimi's other songs. So I borrowed about a half dozen or so tapes he had and took them home. Popped `Are You Experienced?' into the tape deck and hit play.

wow...

I can only think of one other album that had an impact on me like that first real listen to Jimi did, and that was Iron Maiden's `The Number Of The Beast'. This however, was in a whole new ballpark, a whole new galaxy.. Ever since then, I'm grabbed just about anything and everything I could get my hands on. This has meant some good and some not so good CDs/albums/cassettes/videos. But ya know, doesn't matter, they're all part of what made Hendrix what he was...
The best.
