Jimi's debut album, and music hasn't been the same since.
This CD is available in many formats, including the original Reprise release, the 1993 Alan Douglas "Remastered" release, and this, the 1997 Remastered version as authorized by the Hendrix Estate.
When I first purchased the 1993 re-issue, I thought the sound improvement was great from the original Reprise version. 1997 comes around, Jimi's family regains control of his estate, and
his albums are again remastered. Turns out that 1993's Douglas "Remasters" weren't taken from the original master tapes , but from an EQ'd copy! Damn him! However, this time it was done right. The remastering this time was supervised by Eddie Kramer, the man who engineered the original recordings. The
difference between 1993 and 1997 are..amazing to say the least. Eddie helped Jimi get the sounds Jimi heard in his head, onto tape. There can be no one better in charge of remastering Jimi's music. Do yourself a favor, get the 1997 versions, you won't be sorry!
The 1993 and 1997 versions have an additional 6 songs that weren't on the original US version, the 3 b-sides of the 3 singles from the album, and 3 tracks which were only on the UK release. The only difference trackwise between the 1993 and 1997 is in the order of the songs.
