(July 10)-Well, if you weren't in attendance at Saturday's show, you really missed out. I made the ten hour trip with help from my friend Dan and accompanied by Josh Rutledge, a fellow Pennsylvanian responsible for the great zines "Now Wave," and "Pee Pee." Dave Berger served as our gracious host and showed us around lovely downtown Cinncinnati. The show was well worth a ten hour drive (and apparently a 16 hour drive, as a few kids from Massachussetts were there as well), the Connie Dungs were great and I was really happy to finally get the chance to see them live. I was excited to see how the band sounded with Dave replacing Rob, and he did not dissappoint, those who are familiar with Spodie know that Dave is a great guitarist and vocalist, and makes a great addition to the Connie Dungs.

I got a chance to meet Wayne and Brandon and they were really nice guys, eager to talk with fans and really positive about everything. I had a great time at the show and just hanging out with Dave and everyone we got a chance to meet. It was short three day vaca, but one that I really enjoyed. I hope I get the chance to do it again soon.

Don't forget to check out the "official" Connie Dung's page, Dave is still working on it, but it will eventually be THE Connie Dung's page to visit. Check it out and let Dave know what you think.

(July 21)-Dave's "official" Connie Dung's page is now up and running. Dave is still working on it though, so it will get much better in the future. Check the page out here, and let Dave know what you think. We are working on the page together so some things, such as the guestbook, will remain the same, you will now be able to sign the guestbook from the "official" page as well as here. Hopefully we will be able to make it THE Connie Dung's page, with tons of info. and other cool stuff on the band. Anyway, the show is still on, I'll be driving 10 hours to attend, and it'll be worth every mile.

(July 14)-Here's more info. on the show!

the show

who?: the Connie Dungs, Boris the Sprinkler, and the Kung Fu Monkeys

where?: the Buzz in Cincinnati Ohio in the neighborhood of Corryville/Clifton

when?: Saturday, August 7th at 9pm

this is the event of the summer (well at least for me it is) so be there

Here's more specific info. from Dave (this can also be found in the guestbook, but I thought I'd repost it here for those who missed it), email him with any questions, etc.

"Hi to all, For everyone interested, here is more info on the show August 7th. Boris the Sprinkler, The Kung Fu Monkeys, and The Connie Dungs will be playing in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 7th, Saturday @ The Buzz Coffeehouse. Show starts at 9:00PM, $7, all ages. This venue is small, and it is advised people arrive as early as possible for admittance. Two points worth considering: 1. The Buzz doesn't serve alcohol, nor may you bring alcohol in the venue. There are however numerous bars along the surrounding streets. 2. There is NO RE-ENTRY. Once you go inside the venue, you can not leave and re-enter without repaying the cover. These rules kinda suck, but there are reasons why they must request both. Aside from this, the Buzz is the only all age venue in the city that will do punk DIY shows. Anyone in need of info or directions, please feel free to e-mail me at: Cweidops@aol.com Hopefully we'll be getting that new Dungs page finished in the next week! Hope to see some of you at the show! See ya, Dave"

(July 11)-For anyone who did not read my post on the guestbook, the reason I have not been able to update the page was because of the untimely crash of my computer. Now that it is fixed I will work on keeping you more informed on things dealing with the Connie Dungs. Dave is currently working on a new page that, from what I have seen, is going to kick the shit out of this page. I will have the address listed here as soon as the page is done. As for shows, there is one show coming up in the beginning of August which I will fill you in on at the end (which is sort of now). I will be making some minor adjustments to the page, and I know there are lots that should be made, but until then...goodbye.

I will have more info. as it become available.

(April 25)-The latest news from the Connie Dungs front is that Rob has been replaced by Dave Berger of Spodie, the great Cincinnati pop-punk band that broke up this past March. I have not heard from Wayne in awhile, but I will disclose more details on the whole situation as they become available to me. Dave is not only going to be taking over on guitar for the band but he is also partnering up with me to beef up the website. That's going to mean lots of changes around here, with a huge facelift, and tons more inside info. on the band. I'm not sure how soon all the changes to the page will start, but keep checking back. Don't forget the dung's new album "Earthbound For the Holiday" is slated for a May 18th release date on Mutant Pop. It is certain to go down as their best album to date. Make sure to get a copy as soon as it's out.

(April 10)-I finally added the info. on "Earthbound For the Holiday" to the discography section. Go there to check out the cover scan, a complete track listing, and my thoughts on what I've heard so far. The release date is May 18th, and I'm anxiously awaiting the day I get to experience the album in it's full glory. I'm certain this is their best album to date, and it is sure to turn more than a few heads. The band did a great job with this album. Be sure to keep checking on the Mutant Pop web page for the latest news. I will also be sure to update the news section whenever I hear from Wayne. thanks for visiting the page please sign the guestbook and let me know what you think of both the band and the page. lew

(April 6)-Good news for all you Connie Dungs addicts out there. The new dungs full length entitled "Earthbound For the Holiday" is slated for release on May 18th. Wayne sent me a preview of the album, and I can assure you that it won't dissapoint even the most discerning dungs fan. I definitely feel that this is their best material yet. I won't say too much right now, but within the week I'll have a scan of the cover, a full track listing, and more of my thoughts on what I've heard so far.

Wayne has also told me the band is going to work on putting out more singles in the future. That should include a release on Mutant Pop as well as a couple other labels. I'll have more information on those releases in the future.

As far as the page is concerned, I've been trying to give it a more appealing look the last few weeks. I hope you like it, if not let me know how I can improve it. I'd love to hear what you think of the page. If you have any comments on the page or the band please email me or sign the guestbook, Wayne and other band members have been known to pop in on the page from time to time. Make sure to check in on the page in the next few weeks. Wayne is planning on keeping me informed on all of the bands future plans, and I'll be sure to add them to the news section the minute he does.

(March 22)-I recently talked to Wayne on the phone and I can tell you right now that I will have lots of updates and inside info. in the next few weeks. Most notably will be info. on the upcoming album. Check back in the next few days for more on that. I am also planning on redoing a lot of the pages to give the page a fresher look and make it easier to navigate. thanks for stopping in, and don't forget to sign the guestbook.

(January 20)-I have been busy working on the discography the last few weeks, that included beefing up the info on the releases as well as putting scans up for EVERY release, with the exception of the 10" split with the Auto's, I couldn't fit it on the scanner, i'm working on that one though. I think the scans came out alright, and i'm happy with the discography for the time being. Sorry I didn't get that review from "Now Wave" typed up yet, when i looked at it i realized it was longer than i had thought.
Unfortunately I have no new dungs news right now, i'm in the process of writing to wayne to see if he can give me some info on the bands upcoming plans, but if you're looking for more info try the Mutant Pop page. Which if you haven't seen yet you seriously need to check out. It's definetely one of the most exciting poppy punk pages out there right now.
I also came across a page done by a kid named Billy Body Odor, that has a bunch of good dungs songs in real audio, check the links page for that. I also recently added a guestbook, PLEASE SIGN IT, and let me know what you think i could really use some feedback. well, i guess that's it for now. keep checking back for more connie dungs goodness. lew

(December 22)-Sorry that the updates haven't been consistent, last week was a hellish week. But tonight i've got some time so i'm adding some stuff to the page. The mutant pop page is really taking off. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out it's so rad. I can't get enough of Mutant Pop's greatness. The page has tons of info. on the dung's releases so check it out. I have not heard the rerelease cd yet, but it's bound to rock, so pick one up. I'm in the midst of putting up a HUGE review of "Driving on Neptune" from issue #2 of the great "Now Wave" magazine, by none other than the infamous Josh Pee Pee. It's such a great review, but it's long so it'll be awhile before I get it all typed up. Have a great holiday and I'll have more updates soon. lew

(November 18)-Great news! Tim finally decided to do a Mutant Pop webpage. It's really text oriented, but it works well that way. check it out.

(November 17)-shit, I hadn't realized how long it had been since I last updated this page. I apoligize for my retardedness, I had a job, I don't right now, so I have time to work on the page. I've already made a few improvements, and I have some more planned, so keep checking back. As for updates on the dungs here's the latest from the Mutant Pop catalog (which by the way is starting to get better and better, if you're still not hip enough to know to get on tim's mailing list, for god's sake do it now!): "The Connie Dungs Songs for Swinging Nice Guys is gonna be the next Mutant Pop title through the door. In fact, it may well be on the street by the time you receive this catalog (note:It's out now!-lew). This third CD from Kentucky's finest snot-poppers features both of the band's nearly album length demo tapes-Songs for Swinging Lovers and Nice Guys Finish Last. Twenty-five cuts in all, many of which have never been released in any form. A few songs have found their way off the demo tapes and onto 7" vinyl (the hit "Cowboy" comes to mind), while other songs were later re-recorded for the (out of print0 "Missy and Johnny" EP on Harmless Records or the (now out of print) "I Hate This Town" EP on Mutant Pop. This CD is kind of like a Greatest Hits package of their early material. I emphasize that all but a couple songs are previously unreleased recordings-the band recorded some of their early tunes as many as four times! Even fanatic DUNGS fans that have every chunk of 7" vinyl in their hoard need this one for their sounds collection... Anyway, the Songs for Swinging Nice Guys CD will be on the street right around the first of November and you should be sure to grab a copy.

That's all for the update for now, remember to keep checking back for more dungs goodness.

(july 27)-Here's some more updates from Tim on the connie dungs (thanks agian Tim, without you there wouldn't really be a news section.):

"The Connie Dungs were going to play a few shows in August, heading up to Pennsylvania, but the dates had to be cancelled due to the failing health of Chris and Wayne's father. Wayne was really sad about not being able to play up there and I know that Brandon wants to tour quite a bit, too. It's a tough situation all the way around...

Wayne is starting a side project band, total three-chord Ramones-o-core in the vein of The Riverdales, The Richies, Head, The Dinks, etc. etc. I think Chris is playing drums and that the guitarist is named Brian, a local guy who has a cool little studio. No name yet but Wayne is really happy to be writing songs and having a blast. If they don't suck I will probably put out a record for them on Mutant Pop sometime in 1999."

(july 25)-First of all, I'm sorry I haven't been updating this but for a few weeks I was unable to access the web and I've been busy with other things. Tim has given me more updates on the dungs which I'll post later in this update, but first here's a few random bits of dungs news.

Tim has told me that the availability of the t-shirts is dwindling so email Tim before ordering one.

Plan-it-X records has rereleased the Operation: Cliff Clavin/Connie Dungs split on CD. They also added an acoustic version of "I Hate This Town" sung by an OCC roadie. The CD is available for $3 (plus $1 postage) from Mutant Pop. Or you can write Plan-it-X at: 5810 W.Willis Rd., Georgetown, In. 47122.

Now for Tim's updates (thanks Tim!):

"Well, the Supreme Director of Connie Dungs, Inc. has decreed that my 15 song "short, rockin' album" of the early Connie Dungs stuff is a no-go. He (and drummer Chris) wants the original demo versions of all 25 songs on both tapes. Wayne is neutral and I haven't heard anything about Rob's views...

I click my heels and answer, "Yes, sir!"

The working title "Blast from the Past" has been blasted into the past and the new working title is "Songs for Swinging Nice Guys."

Wayne says he's sending art soon. I'll head in to do some digital mastering next week, I hope...

Also got a cassette dub of the rough mix of "Lost in the Microcosm" album today. A couple of annoyances, but it seems that Brandon was annoyed by the same things, so this mo-fo is looking HOT... They'll mix in a month or so...

The band has selected about 12 songs to pare down to 10 for the Mutant Pop covers 10" project... They're going totally after 1980s alt rock radio pop, which is fine, I guess... "Anatomy of a Perfect Pop Song" is the title there..."

This is a more recent update from Tim:

"The Connie Dungs demos CD is going to contain ALL 25 demo cuts, the original versions. Title will not be "Blast From the Past," we're still discussing that. Early betting is on "Songs for Swinging Nice Guys," although that is very definitely subject to change. I'm predicting that the demos CD will be out in September and the third "real" full-length, "Lost in the Microcosm," in November"

(june 30)-Since the last update I've changed the look of the page around somewhat which I plan on doing every so often, so keep checking back. Also please feel free to email me and tell me what you think of the page, good or bad, and what you want to see done with it. I want to add a guestbook, but until then I'd really like to hear your feedback.

Now for this updates big news; Timbo of Mutant Pop records has once again been kind enough to provide me with more update news on the dungs and their recordings (a huge thankyou is due to Tim for taking time out of his busy schedule to help me out, thanks so much!), so here goes:

"Mutant Pop is up and running again after my cross-country jaunt...

The vocals for the 4th Connie Dungs album are finished. As you recall, the third CD is gonna be a collection of demo and singles material called "Blast from the Past." Pretty sure that will be the title anyway. It's probably going to be 15 songs with a running time of right around 30 minutes. I've selected songs but still need to run the sequence past Brandon and Wayne. This will probably release in late summer 1998.

Anyhow, the 4th CD is going to be called "Lost in the Microcosm" and is scheduled for a November 1 release. I'm fairly certain that it will be regarded as the best Connie Dungs album to date--although the 5th album will end up being the classic, I think... Smarter lyrics all around, no more songs about cannibals or monsters or hermaphrodites... Brandon and Wayne are listening to J Church and Jawbreaker non-stop and it is definitely leaking through into the lyrics--fortunately they are doing a fine job of retaining and improving the Dungs "sound," so it makes for an interesting amalgam. You are right on the mark when you hyphenate the words emo-snot.

The guitar sound on the 4th album is big, big, big--definitely the best yet--and they spent more time on the recording, eight days by the time the mix is finished vs. 5 on each of the previous two albums out of Sonic. This makes for a denser sound, more developed harmonies.

Kelly from The Fosters does some guest vocals, Mass Giorgini adds backups on another song, and I got to do gang vocals along with Wayne and his pal Jason on another. That's my shriek on "Rollercoaster"--Mass said it sounded like a room full of Joey Vindictives. Tee hee. I did another gang backup thing on another song but damned if I can remember what it is.

Mass will be mixing the album along with Brandon and Wayne in a month or so, technical difficulties prevented this during the last session.

The recording budget is probably gonna wind up right around $4000 on this one. Yikes!

We plan on doing a full-sized color poster in association with the album. More details on that later.

In other Dungs news, I have greenlighted the band to record 10 cover songs for a 10" record (!!!) to be released on Mutant Pop during the first part of 1999. The band is selecting songs now.

Connie Dungs T-shirts are now available as well. Price is $9 plus $1 shipping. Black ink on white fabric, L or XL sizes. Design is the drawing by Brandon that appears in the upper left corner of the centerfold photo of the "Driving on Neptune" CD. From: Mutant Pop Records, 5010 NW Shasta, Corvallis, OR 97330."

(june 12)-the new dungs CD "Driving on Neptune" has been on the streets for more than ten days and I still can't get enough of it. I've been listening to it almost non-stop tonight and I've been basking in it. I admit that I was a little worried that the new album was going to be a totally different "sucky" dungs and I'm happy to announce that I my fears were ill spent. This CD rocks so hard I'm willing to say it's even better than their self-titled, it may not seem so at first but it I think it is. This album isn't standard dungs fare, it shows a more almost emoish side of the dungs (does emo-snot punk kings sound good?) that grabs your insides and almost rips them out, sparing you only for the last song "Going loco" that's a slow eclectic song with violins and all that soon builds up and rips you in two. "Driving on Neptune" is a stepping stone for the dungs and you need it whether or not you liked the last album or hated it. This album blends snotpoppunk with emopunk and does it well, (I'm not saying emo as in swooning guitars or anything, i'm just saying that it's emotional, the vocals are still brandon's rasping usuals (trust me it rocks)). So get your ten bucks plus one for shipping together and send it off to Timbo, but be prepared to wait longer than the usual two weeks, cuz tim is on a vaca for the month of june, but will be back in july shipping as usual. In other news for the page, I added some new stuff and I'm attempting to fix the loading problem everyone is complaining about, I also added a new link on the links page, it's to a very well done dungs page, check it out and tell him what you think. And please email me and tell me what you think. My email link is on the main page. thanks lew

(may 14)-ok here's all the info. on the trouble with the release of the new dungs CD "Driving on Neptune" as well as info. on upcoming releases, this is straight from an email from Timbo of Mutant Pop records (thanks again!!!):

"The CD plant lost the master and faceplate film and I had to run replacement stuff. That will mail out today via UPS overnight to Alabama for replication. The project has been delayed until June 1 for release but it WILL be out on that date... Title is, as you know, Driving on Neptune. I think there are 13 songs, but that's off the top of my head. One track has a violin. Zac Damon from Zoinks! sings backup vocals on several songs. Recording was done at Sonic Iguana in Indiana and it's totally hot... The third regular album is being recorded. They've done 4 days on it so far and there are 3 more days to go, I think. There is no formal title,I'm using the working title "Roller Coaster" for the project. It's a little bit more serious of a record, just as catchy and good, but maybe a little more Jawbreaker type of artistic seriousness going on, vs. the more lighthearted, throwaway lyrics type stuff of much of their earlier material. The instruments are all finished and Brandon has done lead vocals for four songs. The second session on the album, which will happen in mid-June, will be Brandon finishing up the lead vocals, harmonies getting tagged on, and the final mix. Not sure yet who will sing on the finished album although there is some talk of having Kelly from The Fosters on at least one song and perhaps Mass Giorgini himself. I'm driving around the country in June and will be there for the finish.
"Rollercoaster" will be released in the fall or winter. The third CD release will be sometime late this summer and will feature 15 single/demo tracks that did not appear on any other CD release. The six tracks from MP-08 "I Hate This Town!" will be on there, along with 9 other songs from the "Songs for Swinging Lovers" and "Nice Guys Finish Last" tapes. Release will be on Mutant Pop and the working title for the project (which will probably be changed) is "Blast from the Past."

(may 13)-The new Connie Dungs CD is set to hit the streets on June 1st. It's entitled "Driving on Neptune" and it's their second full length release once again on the unbeatable Mutant Pop records. The CD was scheduled to be out before June (Tim from Mutant Pop is leaving on vacation in June), but difficulties with the CD plant forced Tim to set the June 1st release date. In the next few days I plan to have the whole skinny on those problems for you to read about, as well as more info. on the CD and future releases, straight from Timbo.

(may 12)-I've just updated the page a little, I added a contact page and some new images (including the rad flyer by Dave from Spodie!). The dungs have already recorded their second album but so far there is no news as to when it will be released. This is what the most recent Mutant Pop catalog had to say
"The Connie Dungs are going back into Sonic Iguana during the first week of April to record their third album. I know, I know, you haven't even heard the second album yet!!! Let me put it this way: the second album is so good that I'm greenlighting them to spend $3000 to record a third. The great Mass Giorgini is gonna serve as Producer this time."

(feb. 24)-I'm going to use this space in the future to tell more about the dungs future releases and such but for now I'm just going to talk about the future of the page. I haven't done nearly as much as I had planned to do and that's mainly because I haven't had the time and even today I don't have time. But what I plan to do is to add some more stuff about each of the dungs and keep it updated with info. on the band and hopefully have some help from the dungs themselves. I've written to Brandon but he hasn't gotten back to me. I'm sorry that I haven't done crap with this page, I know how much it sucks when you want to see more on a page but it never changes. I'll hopefully get some time real soon. thanks. lew
