Ciuinas was formed at the beginning of 1998 in Derry, Northern Ireland by Neil Mellon and Ann Marie Ward. they had been playing in a covers band called Wasted but decided to channel their energies into writing and performing their own material on a more acoustic level.
Quickly Ciuinas have developed a style of songwriting which is contemporary and original and their songs are very individual combining both emotional depth and easy listening.

Ciuinas are currently planning to record a demo in the Blast Furnace in Derry, and after that hope to release as an independent single.
All going well with that they hope to get some airplay and attract interest from both the press and more importantly the record companies as they already have enough material for their first album.
They are also concentrating on their live performances and can be caught playing at various venues throughout the northwest.

Ciuinas hail from a city which is fast becoming a producer of quality musical talent, although Derry has always been renowned for it's excellent musicians, recently there has been a lull in fresh musical talent from the city.
Now we have the emergence of bands such as Rare, Cuckoo, Lukic, The Screaming Binlids etc, and it looks as if Derry is regaining its self confidence in the world of music.
Also the Blast Furnace provides an excellent facility in the town for local produce to stay local and produce their demo's ep's etc without having to fork out money and travel maybe to England or Dublin to record a quality production

Ciuinas is an Irish name and means quietness, which suits the music of ciuinas in that they are an acoustic duo but also reflects how when listening to and performing music you can slip out of the noise of daily life into a quiet space in your mind which you can fill with whatever you want
