have you seen me lately? ----------------

have
you seen me lately? This song is possibly my favorite of the entire cd, along with the slower version of "Angels of the Silences" and the hidden "Chelsea." The original version of "..Lately" has Adam screaming out the complete opposite of the fame-seeking pleas of "Mr. Jones." The original song has him recounting the sad truth of a life in the spotlight and the disappointments that come along with it. Filled with harsh guitars and ear-shattering screams, the song was a kick in the face of Mr. Jones. Now Adam brings to us a softer version of the song; a quiet shake of the head renouncing his earlier dreams of the big life. He sings of being reduced to an object in the public's eye; when he sings "..c'mon, color me in.." you find that he realizes the misconceptions of fame that he'd so cleverly sung about back in '93. Burnouts. Falling stars. Fading away. These are the things he is afraid of, and the things he thinks of when he asks if we could "..tell him one thing we remember about him.." It is in this song that he so bluntly proclaims his desire to be known as simply an artist of music rather than a bigshot in the entertainment world. This song is Adam brushing the dirt off and telling the world that he's not doing this for them anymore. He's doing it all for himself.
