ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC

The following is a brief description of each Alice In Chains record...any highlighted text will be a sound clip of that particular song for your listening enjoyment! (please be patient, the music sometimes loads slow)

FACELIFT was released on August 28, 1990. With producer, Dave Jerden...the album was recorded at London Bridge Studios-Seattle, WA and also at Capital Recording in Los Angeles. The album has a heavy feel...but not quite as dark as "DIRT". The album was certified Gold in September 1991 and finally reached the Billboard charts 9 months after it's release! The album contains 12 songs including "Man In The Box", "We Die Young" and "Sea Of Sorrow".

SAP was recorded at London Bridge Studios-Seattle, WA in November 1991. This is a melodic, mostly acoustical 5 song EP produced by AIC and Rick Parasher. It has been said that this record was done mainly for "Jerry's songs that had no where else to go"! It was released twice...first in 1992 with a black and white label, and then again in 1994 with a purple label. It was also released in a double set with the EP "Jar of Flies". It features a song by "Alice Mudgarden" (AIC + MudHoney + Soundgarden) entitled "Right Turn". "Got Me Wrong" and "Brother" can also be found here.

DIRT was released in Sept. 1992 and was recorded at One on One Studios and El Dorado Studios, both in Los Angeles, CA. It was produced by AIC and Dave Jerden and was the last record which Mike Starr (AIC's first bassist) played on. It went double platinum in Dec. 1993 and is probably the most well known AIC full length record. It is dark and gloomy but produced a number of hits for the band including "Rooster" and "Angry Chair". It also gave us the famous "sun logo" which Layne Staley designed.

JAR OF FLIES was recorded Sept. 7-14, 1993 at London Bridge Studios-Seattle, WA and was first released as a double set along with the EP "SAP" and then alone on Jan. 25, 1994. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, making it the first EP in history to do so! It was produced by AIC and Toby Wright and has soft, melodic sound much like SAP. There was also an enhanced CD+ version released with some cool multimedia things on it. "Rotten Apple" and "No Excuses" are some highlights from this record.

ALICE IN CHAINS (affectionately known as the "Tripod" album) was released on Nov.7, 1995 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. It was produced, once again, by AIC and Toby Wright. The record features heavilly distorted guitars and dark tales of woe and was a definte shot in the arm for all fans who longed for the heavier, "kick ass" side of Alice In Chains. The record is, by far, their most diverse to date...featuring everything from "Grind" to "Over Now".

UNPLUGGED was recorded on April 10, 1996 at the Majestic Theater-Brooklyn Academy of Music, NY. It was part of MTV's "Unplugged" series and aired on May 22, 1996 and was subsequently released on record with 4 songs not aired on the MTV broadcast. The record sold over 1 million copies in the first six weeks and went platinum on Sept. 19, 1996. It was produced by AIC and Toby wright and has some awesome moments...including "Frogs" and The Killer Is Me".
