Beautiful Stranger

CHAPTER TWO

Lunch with my sister was lunch with my sister. Boring and full of speeches and judgments passed on by her. I hated having lunch with her. All I could think about was that handsome stranger that waltzed right into my Communications class, and into my mind. I couldn't concentrate.

"Are you listening to me? I am not going to sit here and go on and on if you aren't even going to listen to me," my sister Delia said annoyed at my vacancy.

"Then leave! I'm sick of hearing about it anyways. Or better yet, I'll leave," I said irritated and got up. "I gotta go anyways. Sorry sis. Later."

With that I got up and walked out of the Market City Cafe. ‘God, that felt good,’ I thought to myself. I chuckled, as I thought of what must have been running through Delia’s head.

I got outside of the restaurant, and sighed. I would have to walk back to my dorm, since I still was rideless. I glanced at my watch. 3:18. I had to meet Victoria for dinner at 6. Maybe if I called a cab I could get back to my dorm in time to shower and get ready....

When I finally got home, the noise had begun again. That damn neighbor was at it again. He was playing Orgy's new song as loud as his stereo would permit. God I was going to kill him! I thought of how much I wanted to smash his radio as I hopped in the shower.

I arrived at The Cheesecake Factory about 10 minutes early, so I sat down on a chair in the waiting area and whipped out my compact. ‘Still looking ok,’ I thought as I put it away. My green eyes shone in the bright, artificial light of the restaurant. I applied some lip gloss as I sat oblivious to all, deep in thought. About 5 minutes later, Vic showed up.

"Summer, hey! I thought I was early! But I guess not.." she said, excited to see me. We hadn't gotten together in about 2 weeks, which to us was like a year. We exchanged our hugs and were then escorted to our booth right away by a nice waitress named Angela.

When Victoria and I sat down in our little booth, I told her what had happened that day. About Sean, how cute he was, and how sweet. I really seemed to like him.

"So you really like him? I mean, that much?" Victoria asked, hardly breathing between words. I guess you could say she was excited for me.

"Yeah, I think I do anyways. Its only been one day, but I get a good vibe. Definitely," I replied with a smile.

"Well, are you guys getting together or what?" she said enthusiastically.

"Well, tomorrow at 8 we are kinda getting together, to uh, well get some food or something," I said shyly.

"Girl! Go get some! Just don't do anything I wouldn't do!" Victoria said loudly. She paused, thinking. "Or should you not do anything I would?"

"I have no idea," I said laughing. "So where was I?"

"Sean, right?" she said a little softer.

"Yeah, ok, well, I met him in Communications. He's new. Uh, what else?" I asked.

"Well! What do you think of him? Where do you think things will go? What will you two do tomorrow?" She shot me an evil grin. I was fascinated with how she never seemed to breathe between thoughts.

"Well..if you must know..." I teased.

"Summer, you gotta tell me! I'm your best friend right? And just cuz I don't go to UCLA and I don't see you everyday doesn't mean you can't tell me everything!" she said exasperated, finally showing some signs of exhaustment.

"Ok, ok. Well you know me, I wasn't planning on doing anything really. Some hard-core flirting perhaps..but that's about it!" I said smirking. "I mean, he's just so flirtable!"

"Flirtable? Is that a word?" Vic teased playfully.

"Sure it is! Right?" I put a confused look on my face.

"What English class did you take? And remind me not to take it!" she said jokingly.

"You ladies doing ok this afternoon?" Angela, our waitress said, interrupting our conversation.

"Oh, we're doing just fine.." I said gleefully, shooting a glance Vic’s way.

"I am going to kill him if he doesn't turn that music down!" I thought irritated. I had found out that my new neighbor was a he, and that he liked to blare Kid Rock on Saturday nights. ‘My kinda guy’ I thought sarcastically.

I tossed and turned aimlessly. I'm obviously not getting any sleep tonight. I couldn't take it. I got out of bed and banged on the wall and he responded by turning the music off. ‘Finally,’ I thought happily.

I walked back to my bed, and hopped in, excited that I was gonna finally get a good nights sleep. Instead, my lovely neighbor turned the radio back on, but louder. I don't know what I'm gonna do....

I waltzed into Communications late and puffy eyed, compliments of Mr. Loud Neighbor. I was drained.

"So nice of you to make it, Ms. McArter," Professor Salendar said dryly.

"I'm sorry professor," I said sheepishly. "Won't happen again."

I glanced over at Sean, who was looking my way. He winked at me, and smiled, instantly making my day better. He was making it easy to like him. Too easy. His sexy mysteriousness, his unique style.. What was not to like?

Class was finally over. I couldn't stand Communications today. I usually liked it, it was just that today the only thing I could focus on was Sean. As I cleaned up my things and got ready to leave, someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around, but no one was there. Confused, I turned to finish packing up my stuff.

"Hey! Its me!" screamed a familiar voice.

"Sean!" I replied. "What's up?"

"Not much, just confirming our date tonight. So whatcha wanna do?" he asked sweetly.

"Hmm...homework? I have a 10 page paper due tomorrow for my Brit Lit class and I haven't even started!" I let out a small laugh.

"Damn girl! You wanna take a raincheck on me? If you do, don't worry about it. I understand, really," he said seriously.

"No, no no. I have never been one to turn down a good date. No matter how many papers I have due the next day," I smiled shyly.

"Well thanks babe, its up to you. So what do you really want to do?" he asked again.

"Surprise me! I'm up for anything," I told him excitedly. "I'm a spontaneous kinda girl."

"Cool. I know just what we will do then," he responded with a grin.

"I'm excited already," I said returning his grin.

"Well, I got a Physics course to be at by 1:30, so I will let you go for now. I gotta jet girl. I'll see ya at 8," he said winking.

"Um, Sean?" I started. "You know where I live?" I said laughing.

He laughed back. "Oh, thanks for reminding me. Hold on, let me get a pen and paper," he said while shuffling through his bag.

"Oh, well its actually my friend’s house, but I'm gonna be there for the night so.." I stated. "Her address is 430 Meredith," I said making sure he was writing it down.

"Tight, I'll be there at 8."

"That's fine. I can't wait!" I responded enthusiastically.

"Ok, babes. 8 it is. Later." He gave me a quick hug, and left abruptly, looking back once.

I liked him more and more as he walked out of the room.
