» CHAPTER THREE «
"Hey, guys" Jackie and Katie replied from the front porch where everyone was gathered.
"Hey, Jackie" Alex and I chorused.
"I'm bored" Nick replied from a chair on the porch.
"We've got some news for you guys" Alex replied in a serious tone.
"You're not calling off the wedding, are you?" Katie, the first to jump to conclusions, asked.
"Of course not" I said making her calm down.
"We just decided we don't want a big wedding. We're gonna elope to the Bahamas" Alex replied calmly.
"But, we want you guys to come with us" I said seeing the look on their faces.
"When are you leaving?" Kevin asked after a few seconds of silence.
"We wanna leave as soon as we can so we can get married sooner" I answered.
"Have you told your parents?" Howie asked.
"No, why would we tell them? They'll just wanna come along" Alex replied.
"I meant have you told them you're leaving for awhile?"
"What are you gonna tell them?" Brian asked.
"We're gonna tell them we're goin' away for a while to get away from all the stress" I answered. "So, we'll go home later, tell our families we're goin' on a mini-vacation together because we're getting stressed out. Everyone got that?"
"Ok" they chorused.
"What do you guys wanna do? It's not late enough to go clubbing" Nick replied.
"Lets go get Jenna and Heather then go catch a movie" Jackie suggested. Jenna (Jennifer) is Nick's girlfriend of almost a year, Heather is Kevin's girlfriend of almost 7 months, Jackie (Jaqueline) is Howie's best friend since grade school, and Katie (Katelynn) is Brian's girlfriend since two years ago. I introduced Brian and Katie about 2 1/2 years ago. I've known Katie for a long time. She's been my best friend since I moved to Tampa when I was 9.
"What movie?" Brian asked.
"Probably 'Water Boy' again" Alex replied annoyed.
"What else is playing?" Jackie asked.
"Umm, 'Disturbing Behavior' we haven't seen that yet" Kevin replied.
"Let's see that" Nick replied.
"Yeah, that's supposed to be a good movie" Howie agreed.
We went to a new movie theater with baseball type seats. (Author's Note: I took the theater from Anchorage, Alaska) You know, the ones that go up and you can actually see over people's heads. The arm rests fold up so you can make a couch or love seat out of the seats. And some of the seats are like rockers. Anyway, it's a really nice theater.
I sat between Alex and Katie, Brian sat on the other side of Katie, then Nick sat between Jenna and Brian, Kevin sat between Brian and Heather, and Jackie sat between Howie and Heather. We took up almost the whole middle isle. After the movie was over, it ended at about 4 o'clock, we went to the airport to schedule our flight. I don't even remember what the movie was about cause I was making out with Alex the whole time. We'd decided to leave in 2 days.
"Dad, I'm home!" I called walking into the house with Alex, Katie and Jenna close behind.
"In the den!" my dad called back.
"Hi, Mr. Parker" Katie and Jenna replied shyly.
"Hey, girls. Call me Dave."
"Want me to start dinner, dad?"
"Sure. David is supposed to be coming over for dinner, so make enough to feed him too."
"I don't think there's enough food in the state to feed him" I replied walking towards the kitchen. "Is James and Ashton gonna be here?"
"James is taking Tabby out for their one year anniversary and Ashton is staying at Chris's house."
"So I don't have to make dinner for very many people?"
"Correct."
"Is there anything special you want for dinner?"
"How 'bout your world famous spaghetti?" Katie asked from the landing in the middle of the stairs.
"If that's what my dad wants."
"That sounds good, with a salad on the side."
"It should be done in the next 45 minutes, kay?"
"That's fine, I'm not really hungry."
When the meat was done browning about 10-15 minutes later Katie joined me.
"Can you drain the meat then put the sauce in?" I asked putting the noodles in boiling water.
"Sure" she replied grabbing a strainer from the cupboard. "So, have you told your dad that we're going on vacation?"
"I'm gonna tell him at dinner."
"You're so lucky. The man you want to spend the rest of your life with feels the same way."
"What do you mean?"
"I love Brian so much. I know we were made for each other, but I don't think Bri feels the same way."
"Why don't you talk to him?"
"I dunno. He just isn't ready for marriage yet. He's always saying he wants to get married some day. He doesn't want to get married yet because his career and everything is going great."
"Whatever you do don't give him an ultimatum because he'll probably choose his career." By that time we were finished with our conversation and dinner was done. "Will you go tell them dinner's ready while I set the table?"
"Sure" she replied walking up the stairs.
