» CHAPTER FOUR «
The two opted to eat at McDonald’s after leaving the car repair shop. "Thank you for lunch," Summer smiled at AJ, as they drove down the highway.
"No problem!" he winked at her. Her bright green eyes dazzled in the sunlight. Almost instinctively Summer pulled her tortoise shell sunglasses out of her purse and slid them onto her young face.
"Okay, turn here," she lifted her arm to point right.
"Where are we going anyways?" AJ looked confused.
"To my house," Summer stated simply, flipping through the radio stations. "You don’t mind do you?"
"Not at all… so, I uh, thought you had somewhere to be," AJ became slightly suspicious.
"I do, but I’ve got to go home and change first."
"Why? You look great to me!"
The two of them looked into each others eyes briefly, until a familiar song came on the radio. ‘Tell me why I never wanna hear you say…I want it that way’ Summer began to sing along.
"Uhm, do you mind if we change the station?" AJ asked, afraid that she would recognize his voice.
"Nope!" she turned her head to look out the window. "Wait! Turn here!"
AJ swerved his jeep quickly to the left and saw a huge house standing before them. "You live here?"
"Yeah, sorry about that turn right there. I wasn’t really paying attention."
"No problem, so uh…" AJ parked his vehicle in front of her large brick home.
"Do you want to come in?" her eyebrows were raised above her sunglasses.
AJ thought for a moment. The guys and him were all having a big Super Bowl party that night and he really needed to go get his place ready, as well as finalizing the plans, and buying food to munch on. "You know, Summer, I would love to, but some friends and I are throwing a Super Bowl party tonight and I need to set up for that."
"Oh, well that’s okay! I should really get ready for my appointment, anways. Thanks for the ride." Summer opened the car door, slightly disappointed, and stepped out into the bright sunlight.
"It’s no problem. Hey, would you like to come to the party?"
"Uhm, I don’t know…football’s not really my thing…" she winced.
"Please!" AJ whined, lowering his head and peering into her green eyes. "I really want you to come!"
Summer debated the offer as she stood by his jeep. The wind blew gently, allowing her silky auburn tinted hair to sway across her face and shoulders. "All right, I’ll come!"
AJ grinned at Summer. "Sweet! Hey, can I have your number so I can call and give ya directions later?"
"Sure thing!" Summer pulled out a pen and a piece of paper from her purse and handed it to him. "So, you’ll call me later?"
"You bet! Later babe!" Summer closed the door to his jeep and watched him circle around her driveway to leave, before going into her house. She was psyched for that night!
