» CHAPTER THREE «

"It’s been twenty minutes. It doesn’t take that long to get ice," A.J. said. "Where could they be?"

"Maybe they went to pick up chicks and got lucky," Brian suggested.

"Kevin, yeah right. And Nick, no way. You see how in love he is with Mandi," Howie said.

"Yeah, you’re right," Brian said.

"That doesn’t help me at all. I’m sitting here with a warm drink," A.J. complained.

"Why don’t you try getting the ice yourself?" Howie asked sarcastically.

"Hey, remember that time when we all went to Harry’s and he got drunk off his ass?" Rebecca asked Kevin.

"Yeah, that was funny. Or what about the time when Sal filled in for the genie?" Kevin asked.

"We had some great times. I can’t wait to see those guys again," Rebecca said, reminiscing.

"Where has the time gone?" Kevin said sadly.

"I’ll get it!" Brian called in response to the knock at the door. He opened it and looked kind of surprised at the sight of Nick’s long-time girlfriend, Mandi. "Um, hi."

"Where’s Nick?" Mandi asked.

"I don’t know," Brian answered honestly. "He went with Kevin to get ice and that was two hours ago."

"I told him I was coming. He was supposed to meet me to go shopping," Mandi said furiously.

"I’m sorry, but we haven’t seen them," Howie said.

"Me either. I never got my ice," A.J. said, disgusted at the sight of his drink.

"We don’t know where Nick or Kevin are and all you’re worried about is your damn drink?" Howie asked.

"No, I care, but it would be nice if I had a cold drink."

"You’re impossible."

"I hate to spoil your fun, but we only have one hour to show time and Donna’s pissed. Kevin and Nick need to move their asses," Brian said.

"Hi," Kevin and Nick said in unison, struggling to catch their breath as they walked through the door of the hotel room.

"Where the hell have you been?" Brian asked worriedly.

"We were on our way to get ice and we bumped into an old friend of mine, Rebecca, and her friend Mary. We went to go get lunch and once we started catching up we lost all track of time," Kevin explained.

"And what’s your excuse?!" Mandi yelled furiously, poking Nick in his chest with her finger.

"Baby, please, let me explain," Nick begged.

"You’d better make it quick."

"I was so busy getting to know the girls that I completely forgot about today," Nick said.

"And what exactly was it that you forgot about today?" Mandi was getting very agitated. Nick wracked his brain trying to think of what it was, but he couldn’t. "You don’t know, do you?!" Mandi asked, her temper rising.

"I’m sorry. I promise I’ll make it up to you. I love you Mandi."

"Don’t bother," Mandi said, slamming the door behind her.

Nick ran after her, but Brian stopped him. "It’s time to go get ready," he said.

"But Mandi-"

"You’ll have plenty of time to talk to her after the show, now come on," Brian said, dragging Nick out of the room before he could protest any further.
