» CHAPTER EIGHT «
"I’m worried about A.J. He’s still not back yet," Brian said.
"Yeah, and Donna is ready to kill him," Howie added.
"Where’s Nick?" Mandi asked, trying not to get mad. "I told him I’d be home at eight."
"Technically he still has a minute, it’s only 7:59," Howie said.
Just as the clock turned eight o’clock, Nick walked through the door with Mary. "Hi," he said, going straight up to Mandi and kissing her. For the first time in days, Nick was happy to see her. That was why he was so confused.
"Has anyone seen Rebecca?" Mary asked.
"I have," Kevin said, appearing in the doorway. "We went down to the adoption agency together and we both got rejected. So we decided that we wanna try to have a baby together."
"Wow," the guys said. They were kind of shocked by this news.
"I think it’s wonderful," Mandi said, offering Kevin a smile.
"Thanks," Kevin said.
"Daddy, what happens when people die?" Stacey asked. "What happened when Mommy died? What will happen to me?"
"Remember when Mommy died and she went up to Heaven? Well, in Heaven she turned into an angel and she watches over you and I. If you die, you’ll be an angel too," A.J. said softly.
"I love you," Stacey said.
"I love you too," A.J. said, kissing her forehead. At that moment, Stacey closed her eyes and was gone. A.J.’s eyes suddenly grew big. "No, no…" He sat next to her on the bed, cradled her in his arms, and started rocking her. A.J. cried his eyes out until he fell asleep.
Rebecca was in the bathroom inspecting her reflection in the mirror. She decided to wear some lingerie to make it a little less weird. She chose a cute little pink negligée. Rebecca opened the door to the bathroom and at the same moment Kevin, who was sitting at the edge of the bed, looked up. He looked at Rebecca with a pleased look, and then he looked at himself. He was wearing only pajama pants.
"I’m sorry, did you want me to wear something special?" Kevin asked.
"Oh no, I only put this on so I’ll feel more comfortable. I mean this is pretty weird," Rebecca said.
"It’s not that weird," Kevin said as he leaned in to kiss her.
"Hello?" Brian said sleepily as he answered the phone.
"Hi," A.J. said.
"Where the hell were you? You missed a press conference," Brian said.
"Look, I had an emergency and I couldn’t contact you. I won’t be around for the next couple of days, so please tell Donna it’s serious," A.J. said.
"Well what is it? What’s wrong?" Brian asked, very concerned.
"I’ll tell you when I’m able to deal with it," A.J. said.
"Okay man, good luck," Brian said.
"Thanks. That means a lot to me," A.J. said.
