» CHAPTER NINE «

She was trembling. Cold and pale. The rain droplets slid down her skin and landed in front of the tombstone. Her fingers caressed the rough feeling of the stone. She let her head fall onto it and she rested there. In the cold, in the rain, in the night. She rested there.

Brian was trying to keep pace with Jana. Her speed was unbelievable. He started to run, while she continued to walk. Not looking where he was stepping he tripped over a rock and fell to the ground hard. He laid there unconscious. The rain coming down on him. Jana continued on not even knowing Brian was no longer behind her.

She finally reached her. She was resting. Just like she was last year... and the year before... and the year before...... Jana felt the tears trying to escape from her eyes. She still had her... she was still hers. She knelt down next to her and kissed her head. Piper slowly raised her head and looked into Jana's eyes. Her tears blended with the rain.

"I can't lose you... not now," Jana said, her voice shaking. Piper wrapped Jana in her arms, Jana's back leaning against Piper's chest. Piper's arms remained around Jana and they sat there. Piper closed her eyes... she needed to rest.

Brian awoke and he looked around his surroundings. He had a cut on his forehead from where blood rushed out. He stumbled up and began to walk. Where he was headed, he didn't know... but he continued to walk. He saw a blurry figure in front of him. As he got closer he noticed it was two people. He stopped a few feet ahead of them when he noticed he was looking at Jana and Piper. He started to walk again... more slowly this time. When he stood right in front of them Piper opened her eyes and looked up at him.

"Brian," Piper said with a weak smile. Jana stood up and walked next to Brian leaving Piper by herself. Brian looked at Jana and then back at Piper. He didn't know what to do... what to say.

"Piper... what are you... what are you doing here?" he asked her. Her smile was still smeared on her face.

"Come here Brian... I want to show you something." Brian took a step forward and bent down next to her.

"What is it?" Piper ran her fingers down the side of his face and turned away. She raised her hand and pointed at the object in front of her. She looked back at him a few seconds later. He was still beside her. A tear escaped his eye. She watched it slide down his face and right before it left, she put her hand beneath it and it fell in. Brian's eyes were locked on what stood before him. It had to be a joke. None of it was real. This whole night was too... Piper was his... she was his.

Piper turned Brian's face to hers. More tears streamed out of his eyes. She took him into her arms. She felt cold to him. But he held her tight. None of this was real... but his tears never stopped. "I love you," he whispered into her ear.

"Just hold me in your arms. Remember me. This moment. I'll be in your arms forever. You were my life, I'll be yours from now on. Remember me. My heart is yours. My soul is yours. I'll be in your arms forever. You were my warmth, and I'll be yours from now on. Remember me. You were my truth. You were my passion. You were my trust. You were my faith. You were my compassion. You were my beholder. You were my strength. You were my emotion. You were mine. Remember me."
