» CHAPTER SIX: RELATIONSHIPS «

The whole time Golden was performing, Kevin couldn't keep his eyes off Kate. He listened, of course, but never once looked at them. And just as AJ was about to walk her and Kayla home he said, "Hey Kate wait up! You two go ahead, I'll walk her home," Kevin said to AJ and Kayla.

"Hey Kevin, what's up?" Kate asked.

"Well... I was just wondering if you wanted to go out or something," he asked.

"Are you asking me out on a date?"

"Well, yeah," Kevin replied.

"Well, when you put it that way.." Kate said. "I'll have to say yes."

"Great, how about tomorrow then?" Kevin said.

"You sure move fast huh?" Kate said. "I like that, sounds good to me!"

"Good, I'll come get you at 7:00 then," Kevin said, as they reached Kate's hotel room. "Good night."

"Good night." Kate answered, smiling to herself.

Tory and Brian were sitting alone on the hotels patio. It was a perfect night, not a cloud in the sky. And the stars seemed to be shining extra bright just for them.

"It's real nice out," Tory said, trying to start conversation.

"Yeah, I've always loved the stars," Brian replied.

"Do you want to hear some of my poetry?" Tory asked.

"You write poetry?"

"Yeah, a little."

"I'd love to hear some."

"Ok, I think I can remember one. Well, here it goes.
Love comes in many shades.
Green for a jealous love,
And red for a passionate one.
But your love was black,
An almost evil love.
You weren't any good for her,
You broke her fragile heart.
But you helped her too,
To fine a white love.
Pure and innocent.
Her love is unconditional and never ending.
It's more beautiful than anything you ever gave her."

"Wow, that was good! What's it called?" Brian asked.

"Thank you," Kate said. "It's called "Shades of Love""

"Now I have a question. Can I kiss you?" Brian asked.

"Yes," Tory answered.

Crystal and Nick were left alone in the "Music Room", talking.

"Nick, when are you leaving?" Crystal blurted.

"In about a week. Why?" Nick asked.

"Because."

"Because why? What's wrong?" Nick said.

"I really like you, and if you leave, I'll only get hurt" Crystal said.

"I like you too, a lot. I don't want to hurt you" Nick said.

"But you will."

"Honey, I..." Nick started.

"Gwen's waiting, I have to go, bye" Crystal interrupted, gathering her things and leaving. She was almost scared of what he was going to say. It might be something that could hurt them both.

AJ and Kayla took the long way back to her hotel room. They talked, mostly about AJ. His past, present, and possible future. But not about Kayla.

"Alright, you know about me, how about you?" AJ said.

"What do you mean?" Kayla asked.

"I mean, I don't know anything about you. Your past."

"Do you really want to know?"

"Yeah."

"Ok. I'm 20, my last name is Harris. Let's see, my dad used to beat the sh*t out of me, so I ran away. Then I met Tom, and he beat the sh*t out of me. Kate helped me get away from him, to get here. I owe her my life" Kayla said. "Thats it, the end."

"Sorry," AJ said.

"For what! You didn't do anything!"

They reached Kayla's door and AJ said. "Kayla, I'll never hurt you like that."

"Right," she snapped, slamming the door in his face.

Howie walked Gwen out to her car, carrying Monica for her. Gwen took her from him and settled her in her car seat.

"You're leaving soon?" Gwen said, more as a statement then a question.

"Yes," Howie answered.

"Oh, ok."

"Whats wrong?" he asked Gwen.

"Nothing, it's just that you're leaving and I'm getting attached. I can't let that happen, I have to look out for Monica."

"Monica will be fine. You need to look out for yourself" Howie said.

"It's too late for that now!" Gwen cried out.

"I don't understand" Howie said.

Gwen turned towards him, looked deep into his eyes, and said.

"Howie, I love you."

He looked surprised. But before he could explain himself, Gwen said.

"Thats what I thought. Good bye Howie" she said, and drove off to pick up Tory and Crystal.
