» CHAPTER NINE «

Jenny and Kelly and the guys have been on tour for a few months already. A lot has happened since the first night they went on tour. Howie turned 26 on August 22nd, and Kevin and Kelly had a surprise birthday party, since they had a birthday right after one another, with Kelly's on October 2nd and Kevin's on October 3rd. Kelly turned 16 and Kevin turned 27. Another thing has happened, Max has escaped from prison! Kelly is reading the newspaper when she flips to the local page. She was trying to find the comics.

"Prisoner Escaped!" is the headline.

Kelly was about to flip the page when a thought came to her. She starts to read the article when she gasps in horror.

"Brian! Come here!" Kelly screams.

Brian is sleeping in his bunk to rest for a concert that night. Brian hears her scream and jumps, wide awake.

"What?! What's wrong?!" Brian ask as he runs up to her.

Kelly hands him the article.

"What are we going to do?" Kelly asks with worry in her voice.

Brian reads the article, and shakes his head slowly. "Don't know. We'll talk to the guys. Don't worry, okay?"

Kelly nods.

Meanwhile, Max goes to his hangout and his sidekick, Alex sees him. Alex is one of the few that the cops didn't catch.

"Hey Max! good to see you." Alex said as he's sharpening his knife.

"What's the news?" Max asks, sitting down.

"Everyone who hasn't been caught has gone home. I could round them up." Alex offers.

Max nods in agreement.

"Do that. I have a plan to ruin the Backstreet Boys for life." Max says as he takes out a gun from the box that the gang has kept for safe keeping.

Alex looks up from what he is doing.

"Are we going after the girl again?" Alex asks.

Max shakes his head, "No, This time we are going for the boys." looking for the bullets in the box.

"How are we going to do that?" Alex said, now interested.

Max smiles. "I'll tell everyone the plan when they get here."
 

When the rest of the Backstreet Boys came back from a day of hanging out, Brian told them the news. Kevin got a glare of anger in his eyes.

"I don't think we will have to worry, We are in California, They are in Wisconsin. I think we are safe, But to be sure, I'll have a few extra guards at the concert." Brian told the group.

Everyone relaxed after that. Kelly still had her doubts. After the concert, everyone went out for dinner. It was a long night but Kelly slept peacefully. The next week, it's pouring rain, and everyone had to stay inside the bus. Things got very tense between the group. Everyone argued.

"Why must you always be a perfectionist?!!! If I want my clothes on the floor, I'll throw them on the floor!" Brian yells at Kevin.

"I can't stand a messy room!" Kevin yells, throwing clothes at Brian.

"Then you clean it!" Brian yells, throwing clothes back at him.

"YOU!" Kevin yells.

"YOU!" Brian yells back.

Howie sees that it was getting out of hand and he runs up to the guys.

"We can't keep doing this!" Howie yells.

Kevin realizes that he is right and walks off. Kelly stayed quiet for the past few days. When her parents fought, it scared her, and she felt that if no one knew she was listening, then they might leave her alone, but when they didn't and someone made a remark at her, she would snap. Brian walks over to her. Kelly looks at him, to see if he had calmed down.

"What are you looking at?" Brian snaps.

That set Kelly off.

"I haven't figured it out yet!" Kelly snapped back.

This turned into a heated argument.

"Scientists haven't been able to figure you out yet!" Brian snaps.

"Your singing sucks!" Kelly yells, not realizing what she is saying.

"YOU SUCK!" Brian yells really loud.

Suddenly the bus came to a dead halt. Everyone fell by the impact.

"What happened?" Jenny asks.

"A tire is blown." The driver said.

"Good, I need to go outside." Kelly mumbled to herself.

She opens the door and walks down the road.

"Kelly it's raining!" Jenny yells to her.

"So!" She yells back.

Brian sits down.

"Bri, You have to go and talk to her. You know you upset her." AJ tells him.

Brian looks up at him and nods. He walks outside and then jogs after Kelly.

"Hey, you ok?" Brian asks.

"Leave me alone." Kelly says, near tears.

Brian grabs her and hugs her.

"Listen, I'm sorry."

Kelly pushes him away. "I said, leave me alone! "

She walks away from him.  Brian watches her go. Then a shot is heard. Kelly looks for the source of the sound.

"What was that?" Kelly asks.

Then Brian sees it. Max is standing a little ways down the road. Pointing a gun straight at him. Max shot.

"No!" Kelly screams. The bullet hits Brian on his right arm. Brian yells in pain. Max reloaded and pointed again at Brian. Kelly runs as fast as she could to Brian. The bullet is shot. Kelly jumps in front of Brian. Pushing him out of the way.

"No!" Brian yells as Kelly fell to the ground. She clutches her left shoulder in agony.

"Damn it!" Max yells.

From the noise everyone ran outside. Max runs off. The guards goes after him. Brian sits up.

"Kelly? You ok?"  Brian asks worried. Kelly looks at him still angry.

"Do I-" She winces in pain, "look ok?"

She starts to stand.

"Are you ok?" Kelly asks Brian.

Brian nods. Howie and Kevin goes up to Bri and starts to help him up.

"You saved my tail, girl." Brian tells her.

He's holding his arm, he looks at it and sees a red stain on his shirt.

"Well, someone had to do it." Kelly joked. She laughs a little and starts to faint. AJ and Nick runs up and catches her before she hits the ground.

"Kelly? She's unconscious, we need to get her some help." Nick tells the group.

"I'll call a ambulance." Jenny says as she runs inside.

The guards walk back with Max in handcuffs.

"Caught the sucker." They said.

Kevin sees Max, and gets really angry, with the guards holding him he sees an opportunity, he walks up to him, and punches him in the face. He was just about to throw another punch, when Jenny grabs his arm. She just finished her phone call.

"Kevin! Stop it. He's caught, and he'll get his punishment. There's nothing you can do now. The police will take care of him."

Kevin puts his arm down, and nods. He walks back to the bus, with Jenny following closely behind. AJ and Nick brings Kelly in the bus. Howie helps Brian.

When the ambulance came, they took Kelly and Brian to the hospital. The cops followed. Another police car took Max and threw him in a maximum security prison.

"The bus stopped because Max and his buddies put spikes in the road. I guess they knew when your next concert was going to be. Don't worry he will pay." The police told them. Jenny nods.

"Is Kelly and Brian going to be ok?"

"They should be fine. The bullets didn't hit anything major. You can come with us to the hospital." The police told them.

When they got to the hospital they had to wait two hours before they would be told anything. After a while, Brian came out with a bandage on his arm.

"Hey man, How are you?" Kevin asks, walking up to him.

"I'm fine. It just grazed my arm. Kelly is going to have minor surgery to remove the bullet. She should be able to come home in a couple days." Brian says.

Jenny is sitting in the waiting room, waiting to hear about Kelly. When she hears Brian talking about surgery, she runs up to him.

"Surgery? Kelly needs surgery?"

Brian nods, "They need to take the bullet out of her arm. It didn't go through like mine did."

Jenny nods. She goes back to her seat, and sighed. Howie sits next to her, and they talk.

"I'm getting too used to hospitals. I'm just glad that she wasn't seriously hurt. She's all I've got now. I wish we hadn't came on this tour. It would have been less trouble for you guys, you know? As soon as Kelly gets out of the hospital, we'll go back to Kenosha."

Howie shakes his head, "No, you don't have to leave. If you had stayed in Kenosha, Kelly wouldn't have saved Brian from Max, and Max would have been still at large. So in a way, you guys helped out, you are not in the way. Stay with us."

Jenny sighs, and doesn't say anything. She leans back to the wall and closes her eyes. He left Jenny to think about what he just said, and told the guys what Jenny just said. They all turn to look at her, but Jenny doesn't see them. They all talk in private, about what to do. A while later, the group decides to go back to the bus, and find a hotel for the next couple of days. Jenny has insisted on them continuing with the tour without the girls, but the guys wouldn't have it. They felt like they needed to be with the girls. Thanksgiving Day was a couple days later, and the guys wanted to spend it with them.
