"Help you I can," Integer Girl said "What's the trouble?"
"The whole concept of math. I just don't get it and I probably never will."
"Sure you will." And so Integer Girl took it upon herself to train The Mighty
Logarithm in the ways of mathematics. They studied frequently and soon
The Mighty Logarithm began to develop patience and an understanding of math.
It was not long before she had become a logarithm master.
A few days later The Amazing Repeating Decimal anounced that she would be
out of town for quite some time due to a family crisis. But not to worry,
she would have her math book, a number 2 pencil, and her trusty TI-83 calculator.
The next day The Mighty Logarithm noticed that Captain Parabola was having some
trouble with the lesson. They talked and she decided that she would try to
teach Captain Parabola the ways of mathmatics. She thought she could train
him as well as Integer Girl.
In a few days the Super Cool Math Team was confronted with some very troubling
news. Apparently there was some discrepancy among the student's math scores
on standardized tests. The math department was in an uproar, and a vote of
no confidence had been called on their old leader. The Super Cool Math Team's teacher,
The Denominator, was chosen as the new leader of the math department.
One day Captain Parabola came to class very early. He was the first one
in the room. He had left his TI-82 calculator at home, so he decided to check
one of the TI-83s out from the class set. He selected one at random and turned it on to
make sure the batteries worked before he signed it out for the hour. A very
strange thing happened. There were small, unrecognizable markings on the
screen. Captain Parabola knew that this was not a normal function of TI-83s
and it must have been programmed in. Then he realized what the marks were -
ancient Sith heiroglyphics! Captain Parabola heard another student walk
into class and he quickly pressed "2nd - + - 5 - 1 - 2" to reset the memory. He was
a little shook up, but decided not to tell his master, The Mighty Logarithm.
A few days later The Denominator told the class that the trouble in the math
department had been solved, and he had been declared Emperor.
"I have a bad feeling about this," Integer Girl muttered under her breath.
Not long after that announcement Integer Girl got a transfer into a PreCal
class in the F-Hall.
It was the day before a test and the math class had been given some time
to study and make tables. It sure was different without Integer Girl and
The Amazing Repeating Decimal to sing the table song.
The Mighty Logarithm told Captain Parabola about her
recent cheerleading victory. Her team had just won an important contest
and was moving on to the nationals in Florida.
"I'm very excited," She said "We might just be the best in the country."
Captain Parabola had lost his patience with The Mighty Logarithm.
"I'm over here confused out of my mind and you're having delusions of
grandeur!" He yelled. "I'll just get help from the Denominator before school
tomorrow."
Many days passed and mathmatics became very different for the Super Cool Math
Team. PreCal had become rather political in nature, and No-Fun Aruna had
become Grand Moff Aruna. When Captain Parabola left his master, and chose
the quick and easy path, The Mighty Logarithm was forced to transfer to 6th
period. Captain Parabola had turned to the dark side of math, and was now
more machine than man. He no longer called himself Captain Parabola; he had changed his name to Darth Tangent.
Then one day as the Mighty Logarithm was waiting for class to begin, something
marvelous happened: The Amazing Repeating Decimal had returned! In her
absence the school officials had changed her schedule and she was now in 6th
period with The Mighty Logarithm. She knew nothing about the recent changes.
"How is Captain Parabola?" Decimal asked one day "I haven't seen him since my
return."
The Mighty Logarithm didn't know what to do. She knew that The Amazing Repeating
Decimal was the only hope for the math team. "Captain Parabola was betrayed
and murdered by Darth Tangent, a former apprentice of mine."
The Amazing Repeating Decimal was shocked. "We've got to do something!" She cried.
"Decimal," The Mighty Logarithm said "You must learn the ways of mathematics.
Go to the F-Hall and find Integer Girl, the master that trained me."
So The Amazing Repeating Decimal found Integer Girl and began to learn the
ways of math. One day Integer Girl asked her to solve a rather perplexing
equation.
"I'll try," Decimal said.
"No," Integer Girl snapped "Do or do not. There is no try."
"Master, solving quadratic equations is one thing, but this is different."
"No different," Integer Girl replied "Only different in you mind."
The Amazing Repeating Decimal could not solve the equation. "You want the
impossible," She muttered.
Integer Girl sighed. Then she took out her number 2 pencil and solved the
equation.
"I don't believe it," said Decimal.
"That is why you fail."
