19980606: An Easy Fix For Many HP DeskJet Problems
June/1998

Brian H has observed that some technicians are missing one essential step in troubleshooting print problems with HP DeskJet printers. Before sending any DeskJet printer in for servicing, always try new ink cartridges. In the DeskJet series, the ink cartridge does a lot more than just supply ink. The cartridge contains the print head, as well. The print head contains both mechanical and electronic components and, if defective, can cause a wide variety of problems. To give an example, a recent printer sent in for service was dying in the middle of print jobs. It might print a few lines, but then it would stop, as if it had jammed or hung. With a new cartridge, it worked fine. So when troubleshooting HP DeskJet printers, make a new cartridge a standard step in your troubleshooting procedure. |
