19981002: Change Proxy Server Settings on Browsers!

October/1998
Tech Note #2

Brian L. from Information Systems has requested that all division technicians change the proxy settings for web browsers from 206.45.100.195 to proxy.wsd1.org. The port number remains 8080. Changing the proxy server setting from an IP number to an IP name will be a big advantage as:
a) The number will change when the firewall is installed, and the proxy server will be moved to the secure network.
b) It will be easier for I.S. to set up a backup proxy server, and quickly change the address in the case the primary proxy crashes.

For all workstations which have had the Summer/98 freeware package installed, this update can be accomplished by running the LockIt95(rev.98) Update 9810 routine which can be found in the COMMAND folder of LockIt95 v2.3 (rev.98) disk 2, [release 981009].

Note that the OCT98FIX distributed to lab facilitators as a quick fix is not the same thing! It only changes the MSIE4 settings (not Netscape). For more information see September/98 Tech Note #1.
