19990609: Right-Click Problems in Version 4 Browsers

June/1999
Tech Note #9

There were a few scattered reports that, after running the anti-virus update for Windows 9x, a right-mouse-click in Netscape 4 and/or MSIE 4 caused the application to terminate with an invalid page fault. The right-mouse-click problem did not affect any other applications, and did not affect the majority of workstations with the version 4 browsers.

I tested a problem machine, and determined it was the version of WebScan in combination with very unique software installations which caused this to happen. An updated version of WebScan solved the problem, and this will be included in the next anti-virus installer for Windows 9x. I am hoping this update will be available before November 1999.
