19990613: Error Messages During Spring 1999 Updates

June/1999
Tech Note #13

During the anti-virus installs, any number of noncritical error messages may occur. The GDISK utility which ascertains the local drive data often gives error messages, depending on hard drive and BIOS configuration. The Windows 3.1x installer is also notorious for enigmatic Windows errors. In most cases, if the routine finishes, the installation is complete. (You can always check the anti-virus version information in McAfee VirusScan.) If you're not sure, you can always rerun the installer.

When running the Y2K Service Pack 5 for NT 3.51, you may occasionally get the message "unable to set the security information for ... <some file name>" Click Ignore, and let the service pack finish. After rebooting, rerun the Service Pack. It will likely work the second time.
