19991007: Cat 5 Wiring Diagram from Ron

October/1999
Tech Note #7

Ron H distributed a diagram last year for techs requiring Cat 5 cable pinouts. Under the ANSI/TIA/EIA 586 specs, there are two supported pin-out configurations. Although the differences between T568A and B are subtle, if they are mixed within a cable plant most topologies will not operate when the pairs are "crossed." Within the Division, T568A should be used, and this is the industry default.

If you are inserting the wires into the connector, hold the connector so that the openings are toward you, the gold pins away from you and facing up, and the plastic tab is down. In this orientation, the wires are numbered from 1 to 8, left to right.

1        White/Green
2        Green/White
3        White/Orange
4        Blue/White
5        White/Blue
6        Orange/White
7        White/Brown
8        Brown/White
