19991008: Works 4 Losing Arial Font after Y2K Update

October/1999
Tech Note #8

We have seen some machines which lose access to the Arial font in Microsoft Works 4 after running the Y2K upgrade to MS Works 4.5a. It does not happen on all systems, and it does not affect other applications.

Microsoft is aware of this problem and has posted a fix (see Microsoft Technical Article Q208187). We have not observed this fix to work. Any technician who has solved this problem should contact us immediately, so we can distribute the solution.

Note that users affected by this problem can still select the Arial font by entering it manually in the font box within Works. It just doesn't appear on the drop-down list.
