20000202: Problems Accessing Shares on Windows 95 Systems From NT 4.0
February/2000
|
Some techs have reported problems connecting from the new Windows NT 4.0 apps servers to a shared Windows 95 drive. Instead of being able to connect, an "Access Denied" message appears. This problem is a known issue between Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95, when the Windows 95 share is using user-level security in an NT domain. The issue is discussed in Microsoft Technical Article 169841. The solution is an updated version of vserver.vxd for Windows 95. This file is included in the latest version of the WSD#1 Anti-Virus Installer. The installer will repair this fault on all Windows 95B and Windows 95C workstations. If you are experiencing this problem with Windows 95 or 95A, you can resolve the issue by changing to share-level security or by upgrading to Windows 95B or C, and running the anti-virus install. This problem does not affect Windows 98. |
