20000204: Error 2242 Accessing Shares on Apps Server with Tech Account

February/2000
Tech Note #4

Several weeks after installing a new NT 4.0 apps server, you may find the Tech account can't access shares on that server. Instead, error 2242 is reported. Error 2242 means the password has expired. A step was left out of the automated procedures, which would have prevented this problem. It can be fixed either by downloading the revised version of the NT Server Prep Update diskette, or by performing the following procedure on the apps server:
a. Run User Manager for Domains
b. Select the domain which is the computer name, not the domain. (IE. "sch021" instead of "SCHOOL")
c. Under account policies ... Maximum Password Age, click Password Never Expires.
This problem was fixed on the NT Server Prep Update diskette v2000.03.01.
