20000205: Revisions to NT Server Prep Update Diskette

February/2000
Tech Note #5

Since distributing the NT Server Prep Update diskette for the apps server installs in November/1999, a few revisions have been made. For technicians who are still doing apps server installs, or if you plan to rerun the setup program, I urge you to download the latest version from our ftp site. In addition to minor cosmetic fixes to some of the scripts, there are four major changes.

a. The step "On Apps Server > Install LANDesk Client Manager" from page 12 is deleted. I had forgotten that this application is preinstalled on the Mind servers. If you install the version on the CD over the version on the server, you will have problems. The revised instructions have that step deleted.

b. In the automated portion of the update, there was a typo in the schedule service configuration. The first time the setup is run, the weekly reboot may not be scheduled. If run a second time, the weekly reboot is most definitely scheduled. However, the revised version of SETUP fixes this problem.

c. The Emergency Repair Disk icon did not function correctly. The revised version fixes this problem.

d. The newest version is compatible with Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a, which will be on the next version of the WSD#1 Backup CD.
