20000306: Avoid Printer Problems When You Install Drivers

March/2000
Tech Note #6

This note is from Brian H. Technicians are reminded that most laser printers contain RAM which has expansion options. Any printer which has the capacity for expansion RAM will have an "installed memory" setting in the Device Options tab of the print driver. Windows does not (in general) automatically detect how much RAM is installed in a printer. It instead defaults to the base amount installed in the printer. If you do not ensure that the print driver's memory setting corresponds to the actual memory installed in the printer, you may not get the most out of your printer, and you could get unnecessary errors.
