20000904: LockIt95 2000 Update
September/2000
|
Summer 2000 computer maintenance - all Windows 9x workstations: From diskette 2 of the latest LockIt95 set, run UPDATE. Division technicians may download the latest version of LockIt95 from the shop ftp site. This UPDATE will set maximum resolution to 1024x768, apply the 1999 Student Writing Centre fix [see March/2000 Tech Note #11] only if the typo is detected, set MSIE security settings to WSD1 custom settings specified by Technology Education only if MSIE 4 or higher is detected, and update LockIt95 2.3 to rev.2000 only if LockIt95 2.3 is detected. The updated version of LockIt95 has various performance enhancements and has the code removed which may have been responsible for the mysterious hard drive file deletion problem which occurred once on a dozen or more workstations after a user had used Ctrl-Alt-Delete to stop the Kix32 task. While I was never able to duplicate this fault in the shop, I have changed the code I suspect may have generated this problem and am optimistic it is now fixed. For more information regarding UPDATE, see September/1998 Tech Note #1a. This routine is a revised version of the same update. For more information regarding LockIt95, see the LockIt95 reference document at the shop ftp site. Note: Windows 9x workstations which have had the most recent version of the WSD1 Anti-Virus Installer/Updater run already have UPDATE installed. |
