Tip of the Month! Mike L has provided a step-by-step procedure for installing Microsoft Office 2000 on a system which has LockIt95 (rev.2000). A similar procedure was discussed in last month's Tech Note #7 "Publisher 2000 and LockIt95". At the time, we didn't have a proven technique for Office 2000. Now we do! Note: Even if you don't use LockIt95, you may find this procedure helpful if you want to get Office 2000 working on a workstation that has user profiles enabled. a. Disable Automatic Hard Disk Maintenance and McAfee before you start. That will speed installation and make the reboots go much quicker. b. Delete all user profiles (two logons and logoffs). c. Log on as Tech, answer no to creating a profile. d. Install Office 2000. e. Reboot as requested. f. Log on as Tech, answer no to creating a profile. g. Let Office finish installing. h. Log off. i. Log on as Tech, answer yes to creating user profile. j. Test shortcuts....All should be OK. k. Log off. l. Log on as Student, answer yes to creating user profile. m. Unlock the session using Teacher Applications. n. Delete all Office shortcuts in the student start menu and recreate them manually. (This is essential because the shortcuts created by the Office 2000 installer do not point to executables: LockIt95 will not recognize them!) o. Run Updated Permitted Applications p. Copy the new shortcuts to <Windows directory>\Start Menu\programs q. Re-enable Automatic Hard Disk Maintenance and McAfee. Now all new users can use the manually created shortcuts with no "Permission" errors. |
