20001208: Internet Explorer Windows Out of Control

December/2000
Tech Note #8

Curtis R found the solution for a rather peculiar problem with Internet Explorer (v4.x and v5.x) and Win95.

When IE is maximized, it doesn't cover the screen as it should. It sits off center and stays there. Reinstalling, changing screen size (both upwards and down), and various other sensible strategies have no effect.

Curtis found the solution at the web site www.regedit.com.

In the registry, delete the value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

According to Microsoft Technical Article Q194759, you may also need to delete the value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\oldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects
