Speak with Sincerity

It is not difficult to be sincere about something you really believe in with all your heart. In fact, it is probably not difficult to come up with a list of all the things on which you could expound. However, choosing just one might be a problem. Here are a few ideas on how to narrow the field.

Categorize your ideas, i.e. society, politics, science, education, legal, or recreational ideas. Once you select your topic, divide it into reasons why you feel so strongly. Were you personally affected by something associated with this topic? Were you affected because someone else did not feel strongly enough about this topic? You are the only one that can decide the answer to this question.

Be sure you understand your subject thoroughly. Many times we think we feel one way, but upon close examination we find that our convictions are borrowed. If we are not sincere in our hearts about a subject, how can we convince others?

Know your topic well and plan what you will tell your audience. Know it, but don't fret about it. This is something you believe in, it does not need a large amount of study. Instead, concentrate on the delivery. Wear something comfortable. Pick something you feel confident wearing. When you feel good, you look good. Speak clearly, speak loud enough for the back row to hear you. Stand up straight, stay behind the lectern and try not to sway from side to side.

Always read your manual more than once. Know your objectives. Can you convince your audience of your sincerity and convictions?

Once you have your subject matter under control, stand up and speak with confidence. Go out there and convince your audience!
