Croyde can be a great beach but there are huge dangers as you enter the sea.
·
Never take inflatables into the
water if waves are 5 foot plus.
·
Rips occur when waves are over 5
feet so not for beginners if waves are big.
·
As you look to the left of the
beach there is a reef break that has the ability to snap boards and bodies with
ease if you don’t know what you are doing.
·
Croyde’s reef ‘Downsend
Point’ has difficult access so do not jump off rocks to get to the waves
because you’ll just get smacked onto the slabs of rock and end up killing
yourself. I have had some great experiences of this reef but only because I am
experienced, if I was not I would stay well away from it.
·
At low tide the waves get very
hollow and very powerful which can lead to some frightening wipeouts. Best
avoided by beginners.
