34b

In this scene, the sheikulislam and other leaders of the Ulema are being received by the sultan in the council tent.

The sultan is shown sitting cross-legged on a throne in the upper left quarter of (34b) with his three sons at his left and surrounded by servants and guards. Sheikulislam Abdullah Efendi, dressed in a white kaftan and turban, is kneeling on a red cushion in the lower right corner and he is expounding upon verses of the Quran being read by Sacidî Ali Efendi, the superintendent of fatwas and the kadi of Galata. The figures along the bottom, dressed in the same örf turban, are more members of the Ulema.

In (35a) we see still more members of the Ulema, some wearing green turbans. The grand vizier, dressed in a sable-lined cloak, is kneeling on a blue carpet at the right just above the center. A row of pages observes the proceedings in the background. The four figures standing in the lower right quarter of the frame are the sergeant-major and steward of the Doormen (in front) and the chief master of the Doormen and a master of the Doormen.
