After the parade reached Topkapı
Palace, there were still more ceremonies and feasts. At length, the great throng of invitees dispersed and departed. In the early afternoon, a more intimate group of officials gathered. After a number of ceremonies, they were received by the sultan in the Chamber of the Sacred Mantle. In the late afternoon, the boys were circumcised in the Circumcision Chamber. In (173b) we see the three princes being conducted to the Circumcision Chamber. Leading the little procession is the chief of the Black Eunuchs. The oldest prince, Süleyman is being escorted by Grand Vizier İbrahim Pasha and by another vizier (probably Tevkii Mustafa Pasha). They are followed by the other two princes, similarly escorted by viziers. The building in the upper left quarter of the frame is the Library of Ahmed III, built in 1718. The building in the background is the Throne Room and to the right of it is the gateway leading from the Harem to the Third Courtyard. In (174a) we see another ceremony. The sultan and his three sons are in the Sofa Kiosk, which is located in the Fourth Courtyard by the pool before the Chamber of the Sacred Mantle. The Circumcision Chamber, located adjacent to the portico of the latter does not appear here. The gold-domed baldachin in the lower left corner is the Bower of the Breaking of the Fast. In the ceremony depicted here, Grand Vizier İbrahim Pasha is bowing before the sultan. The chief of the Black Eunuchs and various Enderun officers are packed into the portico behind him. After this ceremony, the boys will be taken to the Circumcision Chamber, where the operation will be performed by Surgeon General Süleyman Efendi.
