Being the second youngest in the
family of nine, allowed me
to get away from loads of
family responsibilities. I come
from an average income family
and was also an average student
at school. Towards the end of my
secondary school , I was
introduced to a Youth Drama
club sparked by a group of
youngsters to stage plays in
Singapore. Without any prior
theatre or acting experience I
walked into the theatre world as
an amateur artiste. After 15 years
and being one of founding member of first Tamil Theatre Society, Ravindran
Drama Group in Singapore had widen my repertoire from a theatre practitioner
as well as a National Television Artiste. Working for the Singapore Ministry
of Foreign Affairs gave me the privileged to travel to different countries
and widen my views about different cultures, societies and people. With the
advice of my mentor, the then Singapore High Commissioner, K Kesavapany, I
decided to continue my studies. Starting with an undergraduate Computing
program and later switching to Psychology where my passion lies was a
crucial decision I had to take. Discovering the capabilities of my
potentials through counseling has deepen my passion of becoming a guidance
counselor for young adults in the future. Therefore, my journey of
attaining Educational studies and moving along the pathway of becoming a
student counselor would be my next 5 year plan. I am planning to
amalgamation of counseling theories with dramatic elements to educate as
well as to be a guide for our younger generation to make their own decisions
and take responsibility for their growth. So as the journey to achieve my
goal continues, I would like to thank my family, mentor, friends and fellow
colleagues who had made this journey till now a possible.
