At the beginning of the 19th century the Briggs family were farmers in the Pleckgate area of Blackburn.
In his Will dated 1824 James Briggs seems to own land in Pleckgate and Snig Brook which he leaves to William and Thomas,
two of his sons.
James and his wife Mary had a number of children many of whom became connected with the Licensing Trade.
