I have two pieces of evidence which indicate that the Wilmore family may have originated in Yorkshire. The IGI shows a marriage between a Charles Wilmer and Isabella Bell which took place in Hampsthwaite on 16th June 1799. Although I haven't searched for the original entry I believe these to be "my" Wilmores. The BVRI 2 also shows a baptism of a Charles at Hampsthwaite to the above couple.
I have a copy of a Removal Order for Henry Wilmore and family to leave the Parish of Higham for Stonebeckdown in the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1832. Quite why this was issued when Henry was born in nearby Old Laund Booth in 1802 I don't know, but the names of his family match those on the 1841/51 census.
The earliest Wilmore I have evidence of is the baptisms of the above Henry and his brother Charles at the Wesleyan Chapel, Padiham in 1805, their parents are given as Charles and Bellow Wilmore.
There are several marriage links between the Wilmore and Starkie families over the years.
The family remained in the Higham area until the 1890s when they moved to nearby Nelson, most settled in the Whitefield area of the town.
