| Librarianship in Ethiopia: a bibliography
Ethiopia: Introduction Ethiopia is situated on the east coast of Africa towards north side. Its east coast is on Red Sea. It is called "Horn of Africa" also. Its population is over 50 million. It is the third largest country of Africa. Its capital is Addis Ababa which is situated at the height of 7,500 feet above the sea level. Its poverty level is almost at the bottom. Most countries of Africa were colonized by British or French, but this country was never colonized , except for five years ( 1936-1941) by Italians. Ethiopians have their own script - no other country has it. Their language is Amharic. Both Muslims and Christians live there. Most Christians are Orthodox. Ethiopia is known as the "Land of Thirteen Month of Sunshine" - because they use Julian calendar and it is of thirteen months, not twelve months. Their twelve months are of 30 days each and they have a short month of five days. Their New Year is on September 11. They celebrate their Christmas on January 6. Many voluntary organizations work their and several regional such as Organization of African Unity (OAU), PADIS and international organizations headquarters such as, International Livestock (ILCA), are there.
