3 - Vasant Panchamee
[Maagh Maas - 5th day of Krishn Paksh]

 

One day festival in Spring in honor of Devee Saraswatee - the Goddess of Learning celebrated with kite flying and using yellow color and blessing schoolchildren books.

Because of Spring all farms become green and blossom various kinds of flowers in gardens. Especially mustard farms look very beautiful with yellow flowers, as if God has spread yellow color sheet on the earth.

Women and girls wear yellow Saree, Dupattaa; tuck yellow flowers of mustard in their hair; exchange these flowers with their friends, relations, elders; cook sweet yellow rice (with Kesar). Children worship their books so that they can be blessed with the knowledge. Braahman do Yagya to bless all mankind with knowledge. This is supposed to be good day to start education for a child.
