Shiv Raatri [Phaalgun Maas - 14th Day of Krishn Paksh]
This day is commemorated in the remembrance of the night when Lord Shiv, the God of Destruction, danced his celestial dance - Taandav dance. This day is His marriage anniversary too. Fasts and prayers mark the day. All ages of men, women go to Shiv temples and worship Him and make offerings. The most strange thing in this worship is that one cannot bring any kind of thing back home. All have to be offered to the Lord Shiv and thus there is no Prasaad from this temple like others. This day, unboiled milk mixed with water, Bel Patra (leaves of the Bel tree), Ber, banana and guava fruits are used in worship. People do fasting up to noon and later they eat food eaten in fasting days. They can eat in the evening also.
