Dr. Richard Sherman is President of SHD Development LLC, an affordable housing development corporation based in California. The scope of projects he develops ranges from affordable housing for families, seniors and the frail elderly to townhomes for first time buyers to a variety of mixed-use projects in the U.S. and Africa. In the past few months SHD has been in negotiations to develop projects in Abuja, Nigeria, Dakar, Senegal, and Hargeisa, Somaliland.

Dr. Sherman is experienced in policy development and with U.S. government agency funding for affordable housing. He maintains an understanding of newer construction technologies, particularly light gauge steel framing. He has been involved in newer energy applications for residential/industrial utilization and cutting edge, cost effective electro-magnetic technologies.

Dr. Sherman comes out of an extensive professional and volunteer history. He served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Ethiopia, 1968-70. He has a sophisticated academic and practical understanding of U.S. society, economics, demographics, institutions, decisions making and infrastructure.

Richard Sherman has served in a fundraising and financial capacity for various developments throughout California and the U.S. for over the past sixteen years. In addition to his financial work, Dr. Sherman also does strategic and tactical planning and has an interest in community power structures.

Over the course of that sixteen-year period, Dr. Sherman has been a consultant and a strategic tactical planner. He brings strong management and financial skills to the table in these capacities. Among his areas of expertise are marketing and feasibility studies. Dr. Sherman has a long history of interface with numerous domestic and international clients as well as diverse populations. In both the domestic and international arenas he utilizes his management skills in areas such as budgeting and information systems.

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Richard Sherman serves on two non-profit boards: the African Community Resource Center and the Thirst for Learning Foundation. Dr. Sherman earned his undergraduate degree at UCLA and went on to serve for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia. He earned his Ph.D. at Brandeis University.
