RESUME OF PRINCIPAL
Saeed Samater is the president and founder of Sustainable Housing Development Inc., a California Affordable Housing Development Corporation. Previously Mr. Samater had worked for the Los Angeles City Council as a Planning and Economic Development Deputy of Councilman Robert Farrell. In 1992, Mr. Samater joined the private sector where he focused on the development residential and commercial projects. With his vast knowledge and expertise in the field of Planning and Development, he became one of the general partners of an entity that went on to developing a 29 large- family apartment units on Arlington and Rodeo Drive and an 18 unit housing in the Pico -Union area on Lake Street. Currently Mr. Samater’s company, Sustainable Housing Development Inc., has completed other affordable housing projects namely University Park Apartments, Palm Village Senior Housing and is now beginning construction on Avalon El-Segundo Senior Apartments in the Willowbrook area. During his tenure with the City, Mr. Samater advised Councilman Farrell on key legislation and implementation programs in the area of Planning, Economic Development. He was responsible for the weekly briefings of the City of Los Angeles Planning and Land Use Management Committee. This gave him an in depth focus and knowledge of participating in planning some of the major development projects in the City of Los Angeles. Some of these projects included, The Porter Ranch, Warner Ridge, Community Redevelopment Projects in Watts, Hoover and Adams/Normandie area as well as in Koreatown. Besides his job as Planning and Economic Development Deputy, Mr. Samater was the adviser to Councilman Farrell on African Affairs, he was responsible for coordinating the Anti-Apartheid Legislation, and addressing issues such as the Release of Mr. Nelson Mandela. He also acted as liaison with the local South African Communities in Los Angeles. Before joining the City of Los Angeles, Mr. Samater had previously worked four years as a consultant, business developer and financial analyst for the German Construction Company in Saudi Arabia, he also owned and operated a family-owned food service business in Saudi Arabia. In the United States, Mr. Samater was the Director of Wilshire Computer College, he was manager and supervisor to more than 50 employees and 400 students. During his tenure, he increased college enrollment and improved student retention dramatically. Mr. Samater was a lecturer at South West Community College in Los Angeles and Long Beach City College during the period of 1988-1992. Mr. Samater has Bachelors Degree in History from University of Somalia and two Masters Degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning and African Area Studies from UCLA. Saeed is one of the founders and a Board Member of the Africa-USA Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also currently the President of the Somaliland Policy; Reconstruction Institute, a member of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, Black American Political Action Committee (BAPAC), The Urban Institute in Washington D.C. and Board Member of Inter Africa Group based in Addis Ababa Ethiopia and a delegate of the National African Summit from Los Angeles. |
