March 18, 2000 Did ya ever have something bad happen to you? Something like the motorcycle accident which is documented ad nausea all over this website!?! It's amazing to watch the reaction of others when faced with the news that something bad happened which they might define as dangerous activity! in other words, the "I told ya so" people. In this particular case, it wasn't so much the "Oh my God, you are nuts for riding" kind of talk, but everybody seemed to have an unbelievable and completely horrific story to share with me about motorcycle crashes! I mean EVERYBODY! No matter who I talked to, it took no longer than about 5 minutes for the discussion to become a mini movie about heads coming off bodies.... arms of little children being thrown hundreds of yards from a road.... Guys doing cartwheels down the Interstate Highway after going headfirst over the handlebars at 70mph.... I think you get the idea. So I sit and politely listen as these stories are spun, and wonder why it is that people seem to think its cool to relive such horrific events! I would imagine the concept is to share this tale with me, in order for me to think to myself "Yikes Scooter, get off the bike now before you are the central character of the next story! The storytellers don't seem to understand that it is tales such as these which make me and other nuts like me just want to get back on the bike and prove to the world that we can DO THIS! It's the morons and stupid people of society which ruin it for the rest of us smart and safety minded people. In the end, I will concede that it will be a long time, if ever, for me to get back on a motorcycle. The reason is different than the ones which would flow from the storytellers and hand wringers. Simply put, I like having both my feet pointing in the same direction, and honestly do not have a burning desire to repeat the incident over and over until I no longer HAVE feet in which I would be able to point in the same direction! For now... case closed! ....and that's my HOTAIR for today
