6/4/02 Finally updated Women in Metal. Be sure to read the news section there. In other news, I got the Harry Potter DVD a week ago and I still can't get to those deleted scenes. Grrrrrr.... Oh, I know how to get to them, it's just that my DVD player won't let me or something. I don't know.

1/30/02 Well, my favorite record store, Rockit Records in Saugus, MA, has gone out of business. : ( On the plus side, I was able to get a few good deals before they closed:

Bruce Dickinson – 'Skunkworks': For $0.99 I figured how could I go wrong? I never expected it would go so right, though! It's no 'Chemical Wedding', but I really like it. A bit more like 'Accident of Birth' but with a lot of Pearl Jam influence (if you can believe that).
Gamma Ray – 'No World Order': I swear with every album the Judas Priest influences become clearer and clearer. A great album, and different enough from their other stuff that I can recommend this unconditionally.
Helloween – 'The Time of the Oath': The second album with Deris on vocals. Some great tracks, but perhaps a little too long at just over 70 minutes. Not as good as 'Better than Raw', but better than the newest one. I won't compare it to earlier (Kiske/Hansen-era) Helloween because they're completely different animals.
Helloween – 'Walls of Jericho': I only had this on tape and LP before, but now I can listen to all that classic Kai Hansen goodness on CD!
Nightwish – 'Angels Fall First': Only had a copy of this one before. Aaaaaahhhh. I love Nightwish.
Sinergy – 'To Hell and Back': Though I really liked their debut, I never bought this one because from what I heard it was just more of the same. My initial impression was pretty accurate, but I have to say it was worth the $5 I paid for it. Not much more though. Now I just need to find someone to go see them with me on their North American tour!
Wizard – 'Head of the Deceiver': "We play more metal than the most people can take." Yes, that's right. Another German power metal band! Often described as a German Manowar, but these guys are much heavier and don't sing about motorcycles. Good, but unoriginal.
