Swimsuits are delicate and can wear out very fast with regular use. Here are some tips to help them last longer. Follow these simple pointers, and you could end up with a suit that lasts for a year or more, even with heavy practice.
Do's
If you absolutely have to machine wash a suit, turn it inside out, set the water temperature to cold, and put it on a delicate cycle.
The first time you wash a suit (hand or machine wash), add a cup of vinegar. This will help it keep its color.
Try to have 2 or more suits for practice. That way, you can alternate between them and they will last longer.
A lot of companies are now making products available for chlorine removal from suits. Rinse your suit after using these.
After practice, rinse your suit out with cold water, and try to hang them up to dry.
Don't's
Try to avoid machine washing your suit. Do not put them in the dryer.
Do not iron them!
Do not wring out your suit. The lycra that swimsuits are made out of is pretty delicate, and this can stretch out or even rip your suit.
Do not leave your suit rolled up in a towel. This allows the chlorine to stay on the suit longer, and will account for faster suit breakdown.
Try not to get suntain oils and lotions, soaps, etc. on your suit. These can leave stains.
