Technique

Swimming is a complicated sport when you are learning to do it right. Sometimes, trying to get your strokes, starts, and turns correct can be frusterating and time consuming. If you are looking to improve something or need to know how something works, this is the place to go.

arrow Strokes All strokes take time to master. I have descriptions of all four strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle) here. Hopefully, if you need help with your technique, or are just curious, this will help you out.
arrow Starting Starts may seem easy, but they have fine details that a lot of people would miss. Here, I have the procedures for four types of starts (grab, track, swing, and backstroke).
arrow Turns Turns can be tricky at times, doing them incorrectly is a very common cause of disqualification in meets. I have described each stroke's turn here.
