Awakening

She was cold,
alone,
amidst the huddled mass of
her room.

Tears flowed
uncontrollably.
She listened
She heard

Fire was there
growing,
changing.
Fear took its hold
she dared not look
from beneath the bedcovers.

There she saw it
there it was
Fire!
In her room?
?a forest instead.

Seven
is the number.
Seven
is what they were.
Seven
animals locked in by the flames.
Seven
flames.

Connection!

Here's her eagle, it flies
toward the center of being.
Its silver feathers
like that of heather, sparkle, Alive!

Now is the coming
the quest has begun
Returned they have
the sign of things to come.
The Awakening!

-------------------------------------------------------------
A poem that was written during high school and later revised in college, after I have learned a thing or two. It was an awakening of my mind to the possibilities, hence the title, but also, I learned about growing up and dealing with life.
