When I present workshops or work directly in classrooms with children, I always use visual aids to illustrate the action in the songs and stories. This helps the children to focus on the activity and it also increases their enjoyment. Children love to anticipate what is coming next in the picture sequence and can't wait to turn the pages themselves! When they see the picturesm they say and sing the words that describe the picture. This kind of experience directly supports children's understandinf of the concepts involved as they connect words and meanings -- this is the foundation for literacy. My visual aids are large, full color illustrations that I have drawn. Over the years, so many people have asked for copies of the drawings that I am happy to make them available for you as Picture Booklets, with simple black an white line drawings. The drawings are for the songs and stories on the CD's. These Booklets are available above with 'pictures only' or 'pictures with text', along with ideas on how to use them. |
| Back to the Top Back to the very Top Suggested Uses Individual drawings can easily be enlarged on an ordinary photocopier to any size, and then colored with typical home or classroom materials. (Feel free to add your personal touches to the original drawing, such as flowers, sun and clouds, or butterflies.) Drawings can be laminated for use as visual aids.(TIP: put a backing on the enlarged drawings to make the paper firmer - use any scrap thin cardboard or old construction paper, etc.) For Parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, these drawings may be reproduced just as they are, or in any preffered size for making 'personal' booklets for children to draw on, color, cut out and play with as they listen to Raquel's Songs and Stories CD. |

These illustrations can also be used as a big storybook for 'circle-time' activities. A great idea is to use the drawings as patterns for flannel-board activities. (Important Note: Always make doubles!) Adults can use these while demonstrating the Songs and Stories and then allow the children to re-play the activity using the pieces themselves. This wonderful language and sequence learning as well as developing children's creative imagination! This way the concepts are used in several learning modalities (visual, auditory and kinesthetic) and will stimulate several aspects of intelligence. These drawings can stimulate your own creativity as well as that of the children. When children listen to the stories and the Songs and are encouraged to use the pictures as they wish, they often are inspired to invent their own pictures and stories. I fully encourage parents and teachers to make their own illustrations to use with "Raquel's Songs and Stories"! All these activities contribute to building and expanding the foundation for literacy in children.
